Evidently he was an extra ordinary man and the kids were getting a second chance. That's a sad one. You wonder why stuff like that has to happen?

With the short skid marks, he must of been distracted by all the kids in there.

Maybe Ray LaHood should ban kids then... just a thought.

This guy was a deputy sherriff... and only one of the older kids was wearing a seat belt? Most of the dead kids probably didn't have to die.

I was wondering the same thing, Why was a Safety officer not buckled up and why were the kids not restrained also. Sad. I hate safety restraints myself, but I wear them. Saved my life one time.

Very sad. My husband and I restrained our 5 children from the time they were first put in a vehicle..and we never had any problems with them keeping their seatbelts on. It was just a natural thing when they got older, to put their safety belt on as soon as they got in. But other families didn't practice that from day one, which led to their children not buckling at all, or unbuckling soon after the vehicle started moving. I noticed this when our children were in grade school. With these kids being from broken families, it's very possible they were told to buckle up, but didn't, or did, but soon after it came off. I do wonder tho why the deputy wasn't buckled up. Although we don't always understand why, the good Lord has a purpose. Prayers go out to all involved.

That wreck looked like more would of survived with a belt. I was going to say something. What's done is done. We know cops don't practice what they preach.

I was thinking it seats 10 too. It was a little overcrowded.

I wonder if that guy had a wife to help him raise all them kids. Heck of a job by yourself. I hope someone takes the survivors in. They've endured too much in their young lives.

Terrible story! I sure hope I never have to drive up on a scene like that! God be with them!
