You can make a lease work on the solo side too. If you're a lease-op, its your boat. You get to find your own codriver. FMs tend to be leary about recommending someone to team with.

 

IP (or any other Prime L/O's), I gather from your posts that your a L/O now, but use to be a C/D? Even though I'll be new to Prime, all my years driving OTR was as an O/O. In a nutshell, are you comfortable being a L/O? Do they give you enough miles so that you can make a decent living? I know what a guy needs to do to be profitable, just wondering if Prime takes good care of their L/O's and if the opportunity is there to make a decent living. Thanks in advance!

 

So far so good. The deal here is gross revenue - not miles. Were paid a percentage of linehaul, fuel surcharge and accessorials.

 

You are gonna have to run the numbers for yourself. Seriously, what's a decent living for you may be bare minimum for someone else, or rolling in the green stuff for someone else.

IP seems to be content with what he makes, and the other Prime L/Os I've talked to feel the same way.

Thanks IP! That's the way I've always run, percentage of line haul plus extras. I am pretty familiar about all the variables to being "successful". As long as they can keep me moving, I'll be all set. I'm not one to hang at T/Stops or worrying about home time. That's all right behind the seat as far as I'm concerned.

Thank you kindly DTB! I have gathered that most of the L/O's whose posts I have read seem content and I'll take that as a good sign. If I had any concern it would be the "competition" with company trucks. When I was an O/O in a previous life, any company I was ever leased to was strictly O/O's without any company equipment. But common sense tells me that it would be in Prime's best business interest to keep their L/O's as "happy" as their company drivers. Based on my past contact with Prime L/O's in my "previous life" as well as what I'm reading on here, makes me feel that hooking up with Prime is the right thing to do to get back on the road. My impression of them from the 90's was that they were a class operation then and that impression is what I am still "feeling" today.

I REALLY like the thoroughness of their training requirements. Shows me that they are interested in creating a long lasting relationship with their potential drivers and L/O's and in giving them as much training and knowledge as they can AFTER they get their CDL. My thanks again ma'am!!!

BTW, that problem with my foot? Got a shot of cortisone in my heel today and I feel like a new man! So bring on the "duck walk"! I can "waddle" under that trailer with the best of em.... lol!
