The ones down in El Paso, Diamond Jim and such, I've heard in New Orleans, Denver and even Charlotte. This time of year with crisp cool weather tends to make conditions better.

Back when Cadillac Man was doing his thing I swear I heard that SOB from the state of Maine to the state of Washington and all points in between....never did hear exactly what he was running but when it was rolling he could get out there a ways..

It is getting real hard to talk locally. Met one of our drivers yesterday on the road. On a quiet day I can usually talk to him for about 5 to 10 minutes until he gets out of range and I can't hear him anymore. Yesterday it was less then a minute and he was completely drown out by the skip.

I could not find even 1 channel on the regular 40 that was begging to be used.

I see Gadfly is trolling for a response/argument again because NO ONE was talking about unused 10 meter "channels" in this thread.

You mean some big hammer keying and saying "Yeaaaaah" beep "Yeeeeah" beep "How 'boutcha" beep and then...other big hammers yelling over the top of each other until the entire channel is hash?

Yup, heard that idiot and another that had nothing to say all day but "AAUUUDIO." I just ran up there to Alexander to drop some pipe and grabbed some hay out of Dickinson to run south again. Man, that is nuts up there. I like it.

I haven't tried to work any skip this year. Don't have much of a amp anymore, and only have that one in the pick-up. Had a heck of a base station one time that could talk to anybody I could hear. Worked Florida, Washington, Nova Scotia, and all points in between. It wasn't too kind to my phones, TV, stereo, etc. Never had any complaints from the neighbors though, but I picked the times I transmitted carefully. I've talked some pretty good skip on my Galaxy 88 in my car, (wilson 1000 antenna)and did it barefoot! I get a kick out of shootin' skip barefoot!! Skip is a pain though unless you are trying to "shoot" it.
