DAC warning, I was employed for conway for 3.5 years. Everything was fine UNTIL I got a call from M in fuel, My MPG had fallen below company standars, (he admited the studio sleeper they issued me got crappy mpg) during our conversation he made a rude statement about my weight, I reported him later for this and LOOK OUT, they are saying I was terminated for call in's from 4-wheelers all were cars NOT merging onto highways properly I couldnt move out of their way, so I"ran them onto the shoulder" first they said it was 3 in 18 months then when terminated, it was 3 in 6 months, on 1 of the dates I was NOT in the area where they said the call came from, they refused to show or give me copies of said reports "they are company memos" "we get 100's of them a week and usually just tear them up"but mine NOW said I used "jesters" and they felt "bullied by me" so I got the axe, NOW con way put on my DAC 2 DOT recordables (1) hit deer (2)car Hit me, she was found at fault and ticketed. 5 Non-recordables (1) alleged incident I hit a fence NO claim filed, case closed (2) trailor broke open while loading (3) trailor damaged while UNloading, (4) another truck backed into me while I was parked (5) hit stationary object, this I did do, left a small rut in grass while trying to get into dock area, (tight) Up until this time I had recieved all quarterly SAFETY bonuses, after each call in I had spoke with safety and they said each time" NOT to worry " "we get these calls all the time"
But now when TRYING to get DAC cleaned up I was told by DACfix.com that Con Way has done this to NUMEROUS drivers. so just a warning

It simply sounds to me as though you became an unacceptable liablility. Right or wrong, a larger than normal number of 'occurrences' are usually a fast track to unemployment. It doesn't necessarily take a serious incident to warrant being terminated. A number of small ones however, can get you walked just as quickly. Remember, you are easily replaced, and not regarded very highly anyway. Warm bodies are interchangeable in the truckload sector of our industry.
Sorry it happened to you, and good luck in the future.

Is it a law when a lane is merging and there are cars beside you that need to get over that you must by law move over for them? I had somebody call me in one time over that. I really didn't think it was a law. Anybody know?

Driver you probably didnt run them off the road if they were merging, they just did not know how to use there brakes. I feel ya!

Nope. The on-ramp yields the right-of-way to those already in main travel lanes. Ever notice notice "YIELD" signs just before the ramp ends??

But if you CAN get over a lane to let the on-ramp traffic into the main lanes, just to be courteous, you can. Nothing says you can't.

Sometimes you yield the right of way because they're stupid, rude, whatever - and you're not. It will keep you out of an accident. Courtesy. There's nothing worse than a stubborn driver who'd rather run over his grandmother than let off the gas and yield the RoW.

I personally think these big companies do this stuff. to get new driver that they can pay less and make more money.

right now in this depression that are government keeps calling a recession, truck drivers are a dime a dozen.

there is no work out there 0, but plenty of truck driving jobs. also plenty of new drivers people are coming out of the wood work to become drivers.
and these big companies get money from the government when they hire students etc., plus they pay them very little.

they are like mills, the sad thing is they get away with this stuff.

truckers have no big unions or nothing to protect them its every man for himself.

I remember the recession when Regan came into office But that did not last that long was hard times but nothing like this now, these are really bad times.

Exactly I did not think it was a law, I would normally get over or slow down if I could but sometimes you cannot and you have to make the four wheeler mad.

But what gets me is they call and complain about the driver to the company, well the company knows this is not a law that the driver moves over. So I'll never understand why your company sends you a message to call safety and this is on your record with them permanently for something you did that was not wrong or breaking the law. I understand courtesy, but it is totally wrong for a company to harass a driver for something that was not wrong.

I do know how big companies are and always looking for an excuse to give a driver a hard time or put something on his record.

Yea but the company is going to hold you to a higher standard as a pro driver and charge you with a preventable. Does not matter if the you have the right of way. Thats why it is called preventable. What did you do to prevent the merging traffic from hitting you.

And we all know that the companies expect you to have your head on a swivel and know the driving ability's and tendency's of everyone around you. Because as a pro driver you are all knowing, and we have a guy here who shuttled trls across North Dakota for 30 years and never had a wreck or ticket. So why can't you do the same driving the 7 boroughs of NY?

I get what you are saying but I guess the driver could say the way I prevented the merging traffic from hitting me is I ran all the cars in the hammer lane off into the median.

It is crazy because the first company I was with ran all the boroughs of NYC and I regularly went in to Bronx, Manhattan, and Brooklyn and never had an accident or even hit anything with my rig but one day I was down in Dublin, GA and was going around a curve and a SUV pulled out into the road and my trailer tandems snagged the front bumper. Crazy I can get around in NYC just fine but go to BFE and snag a freakin' bumper.:biggrin_25516:
I guess it is b/c you are really trying to be careful in the city and a little more laid back in the sticks.
