Try with Schneider National. They have some day cabs. The oil field account is not bad either. I just got on it a few weeks ago. Just plan on being away from home for three weeks.

Chompi is right on this one the only time I decide to d/c is loaded heading up a hill that's it. Don't pop the clutch either as a new driver you want to preserve the clutch's life as long as you have the truck.

If doing it properly, you can float shift with only two fingers. I have put close to 500,000 miles on the truck I am driving and the transmission is still in great shape. I had to get the clutch replaced a year ago because a spring had broke. The disc itself was still in great shape. They sent the trans to be looked at since it was out anyway and it came back with no need for repairs.

So say your upshifting if u put a little forward or backwards pressure on the shifter depending on which gear trying to get into when u hit the right rpms will it fall out of gear almost on its own then u go into the next gear ?

I have adjusted my shifting techniques a few times since gaining my cdl. I first learnt to double clutch, then when i had gained my cdl and was otr i started to play around with floating, i only had a trainer for 1 week, so i taught myself how to float ( I also had to figure out alot of other things myself !). Any way i am now hauling super b train tankers at 137000 pounds gross. I find my technique has developed into a habit of floating the entire way on the upshifts then only clutching it out of gear on the downshifts. I "tickle" it into gear on the downshifts. I find that as i am in the habit of letting off the fuel early and slowing down sooner than most ( due to the 92500 pounds of liquid in the trailers) i let the rpm drop low then just a short dip of the clutch to release torque and move the stick and then gently bring the rpm up to meet the next gear down. I find this keeps it very smooth and reduces the influence of the liquid when slowing down. On the upshifts i usually short shift low in the rpm range and find that the stick comes out easily and i dont need the clutch. i also use all 18 speeds in the tranny and if double clutching in the low range i need to have a super leg as the shifts are quick, especially a L to 1 shift. that momentum drops quick at 3 mph !!

Driving applications are applied to an exsiting situation. None of them are wrong as long as it works. I drive off road and have for a number of years,so I dbl clutch most my shifts and sometime w/ a jake on if the conditions call for it. Learn as many driving tools as you can. You will use them over the years.
