Ok, first off my story, I've been looking into trucking recently as a good recession proof career and I love to drive there were other factors that brought me to this decision. I have decided my school, now comes the other half of my career choice: What company to go with? My first choice was Swift, they seemed decent enough and I was following a diary on here this got me interested in flatbedding, I've heard good things about May and wanted everyone's opinion on them the good with the bad. Do not get me wrong I am not looking to glamor up this company and get it in my head that this is the best one out there with no bad drivers which have been factored in, on the other side of the scale I'm not trying to get it in my head that this company is full of moronic drivers either I just want honest results. So a little about me, I am currently 21 13days from 22 that's how I got shot down from swift, they ran me through half of the application process then informed me that I needed to be 23 at least so I'm exercising my other options I was looking at Gordon but I haven't heard much about May's benefits, cpm, miles ect so can anyone give me their own honest opinion/experience with this company?

well, not to be a jerk, but 95% of everything you just asked on here is in all the posts below this one. Almost every thread in here is about honest, personal experiences with May...READ THEM...
If Swift sounded good to you...you defineitly need to use the SEARCH function on here...

You're good to go at 21, and Payette is right up the road from you.
Miles are good out West, and consistent if you decide to the 48 reefer. The pay is far superior to Swift (30cpm for ELD is pretty strong)

Sweet, and thanks for the info I was actually just reading through a forum you were involved in over idling charges have they considered APU's recently? Aswell, I'm young and my work history is kind of jumpy ranging from 2 months at a job to a year and a half, do they look hard at your employment history? Also does May do flatbed?

don't select your future employer based on APUs (not happening anytime soon with May)
EVERY TRUCKING COMPANY looks closely at work history
    Dry and reefer only
Flatbed CAN pay better, but much of your 70 is spent securing/adjusting your loads...

OK so I have a new concern that I need to deal with before I progress any further with my schooling (I don't want to spend the money if it isn't going to get me anywhere) you say they look at your previous employment history so I have almost a year (11 months) of running my own business but it was illegitimate didn't get it registered and what not but I held onto all of my receipts from my customers I even have positive references from most of them (didn't grab the numbers of them all) how will this impact my hire-ability if this does not count I have 4 months of schooling and like 24 months of work experience.

It might, but there is no telling for sure...
Apply at a few companies and see what they say.
Don't believe your school...they will tell you everything is fine, but they don't hire you! lol

The best thing to do is come up with a list of companies that you would like to work for. Then, call up or email their recruitment departments and tell them upfront your employment history. Be 100% honest with them. See what they say. Don't go through a school before you start to choose a company to work for. You already have come here and started asking questions. Thats a good thing. Keep at it, and make an informed decision.

If you have 24 months of work experience as a 21 year old, that shouldn't be a problem. What might be is if that "illegitimate" business was the last one you held. Depending on what kind of proof they'd be looking for, if you can't provide it, they might look at it as being unemployed for 11 months, which "could" end up being a problem. Some carriers (don't know about May) are kind of picky about being able to verify your entire employment history, including periods of unemployment.

Thank you for the input, it was not my last job but my last one was only 2 months, and I only worked about 2 weeks because I was doing disaster relief in North Dakota (The Minot flood) they pulled me out 2 days before they pulled the rest and I sat around on standby till I started looking at other careers.
