This has probably been asked a few(million)times but here it goes.I'm looking to purchase a new cobra radio off of e-bay,they're selling it for $250.00 & that includes a: modulation peak & power tune,RFX-75,& an echo sound board. Can someone plz. lead me into a good direction as far as getting my money's worth.I'm not looking to get the "Cadillac" of cb radios but I do want something powerful that can get out a good 5 to 10 miles.I appreciate your time reading this & thanks for any & all of your responses

Ask them how much less to omit the echo. It's really not needed. Also I believe Doug at customcbradios offers an RFX'd Cobra 29 for just shy of $200.
Furthermore if you want power, run yourself a linear if you can. You'll get more for your money that way.victormtz1983 Thanks this. -
I would get the Cobra and a KL-203 amp for about $60. You should see more power output and clean clear modulation. All for less money. The amp is about the size of a sandwich.

I think you are right about that.
Just be sure to have your radio modified so you can run the kl amps. I have one and they work better if you only put about two watts into them. No, I don't why that is technically speaking, ask AB7IF, my explanation is you don't want to over drive them if you want them to last. But I do know I have run one for about 5 years now with no problems. (Using a Mirage 9900)Attached Files:

Thanks, Mike I forgot the part about it needs a low power DK of 2 watts on less. But they really do work very well. -
I got a walmart 29 ltd bt and haze it super tuned and peaked.

Dang you guys sure know a heck of a lot more than me about cb's...thanks for your responses, looks like I have a bit more research to do before I commit to purchasing a cb radio. From what I understood a basic cobra 29 with the RFX-75,modulation peaked & power tuned with a linear amp should pretty much get me where I wanna be.this will be my first cb radio & I wanna get it right the first time...feel free to add any other suggestions you folks think will help me out as I'll also be in the market for a good quality antenna cable. As for the antenna I'm thinking the Wilson 2000 or the 5000(I don't wanna overspend on something that isn't necessary to achieve my over all goal)
-
Wilson 2000 would be my recommendation for antenna. As for the RFX75, if you want it AND a linear, you will have to get a linear that will handle the extra input power from the radio. FWIW you could skip the RFX75 and get a linear and still come out ahead. The RFX75 is IMO good for when you want a little extra uumpph but can't run an amp due to company rules. (requires hard wiring to truck battery)

From what I've read, seems to me that the KL-203 is the better way to go rather than run the RFX-75

Boy oh boy...the choices for additions or customizations to a cb radio can be endless(Ahhh decisions, decisions),especially for someone such as myself that doesn't really comprehend all the technical details involved in building it to suit me.I was also reading up on antennas & came upon the predator 10k which seems to be the choice of quite a few cb'ers.I just want a solid cb,preferably something that can reach out a good 10 miles...Thanks for your input turbo-t
