Just wanted to update on my time with covenant so far, been out on a trainer truck for 34 days and its been interesting, got hooked up with a decent trainer and its been going well. For those who don't know if you have to be trained through covenant you have to spend 35 days on a truck and get a minimum of 35 four hr driving segments (can get only one segment in a 10 hr shift.

I've got less than a wk left to go due to us sitting for a few days, and I'm ready to get off...the only thing I don't care much for with covenant is that they sometimes put a 2nd student on the truck...which they did to us the other day and its getting a little cramped in here. that and it is a female and she talks a lot lol, rather liked it the way it was before...but I'm just doing what I gotta do to get on my own truck
Other than that they've been paying me every week like they're supposed to, dispatch has been pretty helpful when needed. So I dont have many complaints..so if anyone has any questions just ask id be happy to help answer as best as I can, as I know the covenant forum here isn't very active

Just thought id update, still on this trainer truck and am a week overdue on getting back to a terminal to end this...since then 2nd student has got on the truck its been a nightmare we should be on our way back to chattanooga today though and it can finally end. But something I found out today that may help someone in the future in a similar . situation as I'm in, your trainer is supposed to clear it with the first student to get another on board...no one asked me a word.about.it. so if you come work here and they want to put another on the truck, raise some Hell about it and let it be known that its not gonna fly with you. Id do it myself but I'm homebound and there's not much point in it now, already put up with the bs all this time. I'll update again when I'm on my own truck as a team.

2 students on ONE truck with a trainer ??

Others have only done that in the past, for couples wanting to team. Even then, it wasn't a sure thing at all companies.

Covenant continues to set the industry standard for bottom feeder status.

    Good luck to you though............

I read both of your posts. Team driving is tough. After 2 - 3 months with your new team mate you can request to go solo. Whichever, try and stay with Covenant at least 6 months before you start looking for another carrier. Some of these big companies like Covenant are always husseling (making low bid deals) on freight and they sit you too long or you go to places that take forever to load/unload you cause they know Covenant isnt going to charge them for it. So hang in there and while you are there do a good job, never loose your temper and when the time comes - move on!!!!!!!

Thanks pepper for the encouragement, I'm gonna stick it out and do just what you said put my time in. I'm off that trainer truck and am teaming with my father, which has changed things immensely.

Well I have to say my dad an step mom worked for them off an on for a long time.... an well here I am lmao. I went to CRE to get my CDL's an it was fine till I got on my trainers truck ( it was a he an another student which was female ) he wont worth a fart! Had to go though training again after his truck. The trainer after that was AWESOME! Still talk to her but they are for ppl who want to get their own truck an thats not me so I headed to Swift. stayed there for 6 months. They where good too. I stayed running with them an got home when I wanted to but my dad told me what Covenant offered an well I could not say no. I have been here almost a year. You get payed for EVERY mile the truck runs. You get a safety bonus every 3 month ( $00.01 for every mile you drove in those 3 months.) Then you get your pay for staying with Covenant for each year ( $00.01 for every mile you ran that year. You get that around the time you get your vac. pay.) you get better miles with haz an you get loads 1st over ppl who dont but I dont an I still stay running though. I have no bad words for Covenant but I hear an see what ppl are saying bout ND an well its got me wondering... :biggrin_25524:

A lot not sounding right here . You got your CDL from CRE then left after training ? That would make you obligated for paying for crappy training . Why didn't you go to a better private school and probably pay less ?
If your step mom and dad worked for Covenant so long and it's so great why did you go to Swift before going to Covenant ?
Sounds to me your leaving CRE and Swift was their choice , not yours .

Thought I'd update again on how things are going here at Covenant since it's been a few months. Still running as a hazmat team and for the most part it hasn't been too bad, I got my own gripes about being promised a dedicated route that'd get us home every week that fell through a day before it was supposed to start and had some problems with the new fleet manager they had given us for said route in particular poor communication. They had us doing a lot of time sensitive freight (which is fine we don't mind running hard with small windows) but for 2 months they kept promising they were working on a route for us and we kinda felt used and abused so we finally went back to our old fm and things are starting to look up again. Aside from the fact that you got crazy people smearing crap on the walls of the ONE toilet in the terminal in california..they still seem to keep us moving and give us pretty decent runs east and west.

Its not terrible here, but it's not a place I intend to stay for the rest of my driving days.

But as others have posted they closed down two terminals in california, and they moved the one in orlando, fl to a new location, which was news to me when I ended up having to go there, maybe they noted it somewhere and I never saw the msg but I had no clue. Suppose that's all for now, waiting to get out of cali hoping we get a load today, although I don't much depend on the night/weekend dispatch..Matter of fact I try to avoid them like the plague
