Keeping Frac Sand Hoses Clean and Dry Inside while in Transit

When I was pulling a tanker if I didn't have enough caps for the hoses I would use plastic baggies over the ends and secured with rubber bands. For 3 & 4 inch hoses you'll need the gallon size. The smaller bags will work on a 3 inch male fitting but not on a female.

 

WE used to roll up cement hoses 'n strap a bungie around the roll clipped onto the female end's cams. Chem Leaman had boxes mounted to the tractor frame where you could carry two rolled up hoses.

Either get with the company and get the number of hose caps or get trash bags and cheap bungee cords to cover them with.

Does it really matter if a small amount of trash makes into the wells?

 

I worked there out of the Columbus Oh terminal from the mid 80's to mid 90's. When I first went to work there it was a lease operator terminal run by the guy that had owned Coastal Tank Lines {Howard Ryder, Nuco Truck Lines} before they went broke and CLTL bailed them out. After Mr Ryder went broke again all the Nuco terminals were absorbed by CLTL and we became company employees. Stayed there until just before they were taken over by Quality.
We delivered waste water and filter sand to Dupont in Deepwater NJ, just up the road from you. I cleaned out in Bridgeport a few times.

 

no experience with frac sand here but,

when I pulled milk tank the tank washes bagged the ends and just used a rubber band to secure the bags, never any issues..

 

I always just pack them in hose trays and don't worry about it. The little bit of road grime they pick up isn't going to contaminate a well I mean look at the units you blow into be it a sand king or a mountain mover or a sand chief they aren't sealed units and they allow dirt and water in. When they move sand to the blender it is just on a conveyor and open to the elements. So the little bit of #### you get in your hoses won't really matter.

My Uncle ws the CLTL Regional Manitenance MGR @ Stockertown, PA ; I worked (2) summers @ Stockertown [utility mechanic] & one at Nazareth, PA [rebuild shop] during college and I was working for a petoleum carrier when I got the chance to go to Grasselli.

CLTL dispatcher at Grasselli, NJ [DuPont] 1978, went to Central dispatch [Dowiningown and Lionville] in 1980 then dispatch at Croydon b/4 a layoff in 1982.
