Why don't you work for central anymore? Because you did exactly what you signed up for? Why would you expect your trainer to drive the same mileage as you? He ahs already proven that he is capable and you actually want what he has. I just finished with my trainer 10 days ago and if he would have let me i would have driven every mile. Sure some of them abuse the situation but remember, they have a payment on a truck that a new, scared driver is putting alot of wear on.

Hey Malcolm,
please take your posts to the "other thread". This thread is for drivers and newbies who would like to hear and talk about positive experiences about Central. There is a thread in which you can trash Central all you want. This is not the one.
Rattlebunny, Lady K, DenaliDad and 1 other person Thank this. -
The NEWBS need to hear it all Chompi!
Not Just the Good stuff from Husband and Wife teams and trainers, Central im sure has changed a lot in the 18 months that JJ has left and im pretty sure it has changed since you left! -
That's great let them go the thread in which it pertains!
Rugerfan Thanks this. -
wow i didnt know that company drivers were getting frieghtlinger cascadias now. that is pretty cool. i geuss you are right that is decen miles to start. ill take what ever they will give me if i make it through training. a bunch of guys already with their cdls went home today cause the couldnt hack it. one in our class found out he had a unpaid ticket from arizona in 1997 so he couldnt get his permit but the others of us all got ours today
-
Congrats on the permit, whats next? Pretrip?
What sections of the CDL book were the toughest/most important, I may want to do some reading before I get there.
The guys with their CDL's that went home, were they coming back from being out with trainers?

the air break section was the hardest for me. the general knowledge is simple and the combination isnt too bad you will def. get lots of study time for the tests and the class c test is the hardest cause i didnt remember the test lolalm_limited Thanks this.

plus its not all to safe to be in a trl of
bananas if they have that gas in them to keep them from going bad forgot the name
but it will make you pass out if you breath to much of that stuff.
They ship bananas in Nitrogen. It slows the aging process and also acts as a pesticide. Potatoes, Apples, Onions and I have heard kiwis too use Nitrogen.
As an aside, if you are O/O consider using Nitrogen in your tires. It supposedly adds 40% to their life due to less oxidation problem. -
Chompi,
I appreciate your remarks and believe me I don't have an axe to grind. The problem was I am an experienced driver who took a hiatus (break) from trucking and am now working my way back into it. I even was a trainer with Covenant transport and have an impeccable (spotless) driving record (Thanks be to the Lord God Almighty!). I certainly have a few close calls along the way.
Yes, on the positive side, Central has excellent equipment - both trucks and trailers. But the reality of Central's "satisfactory" rating under the present FMCSA guidelines is misleading somewhat. Everyday accidents were reported over the Qualcom (mostly minor ones). Occasionally there are large ones - $400,000.00 in property damage. It is now public knowledge. Why? Driver forgot to pull brakes when parked and truck went on a stroll.
But most newbies are young and poor. There is no fast track to financial security. Drive and keep the doors shut. Eat out of the truck (cook your own food). Avoid the nik naks that are all show and no go. General axioms that help with the costs and keep the money in your pocket.
But Central turns a blind eye to obvious short cuts amd liberties drivers take that only benefit themselves.
What would you say to someone whose recruiter warned them that Central is not a safe company? What would you say to safety messages that reveal abusive and demeaning behavior by trainers (questionable nomenclature)?
Newbies are human beings in search of something better. Trucking is an honorable profession and a sound way to earn a living. We can do without the abuse.
My former trainer said to me that "Central would much rather have (use) a trainee for three months than retain them indefinitely." What kind of business and work ethic is this! It appears to me that Central does not want truck drivers but steering wheel holders.
jess-juju Thanks this. -
All the "accidents" you hear about daily were probably non dot reportable or happened on private property. Accidents only get reported to dot if a vehicle needed to be towed, someone was injured and had to be transported to the hospital, or a fatality occurred.
