Hello there. My name is Stephan and I am a rookie driver, 9 months & going on my first year, who loves truck driving. So far so good. I've been with Schneider the whole time and it's been wonderful, especially the nice little bonus that was earned for good performance. Yesterday, however, I had a little incident. The receiver/manager at JC Penney seemed to be in a bad mood. And I knew from the start that she had it in for me. You can tell when someone doesn't like you. It's just this vibe you get from someone when you're next to them. Not only was she rude, she also thought it would be a good idea to try to get me in trouble, and hopefully end my career, which would have given her satisfaction for some odd reason. So she reported me to the company, suspecting me of being under the influence of alcohol. When I found that out, I really wanted to go back to the store and see her face-to-face and have her tell me what her problem is with me. The account manager refused that I go back into the store so I obeyed, but I really wanted to give her a piece of my mind. I gladly told my dispatcher that not only will I accept the breathalyzer test, but that I would also undergo any other sort of test or all of them combined: urinalysis, blood test, even hair follicle. I assured my dispatcher that this wouldn't take long at all and that I would be right back with the test results. 0.00 BAH!!! The company apologized but I know it wasn't them who accused me. It was that store manager, who really detested me for some reason, that wanted & desired to put an end to my career. Still, the company apologized and I said it was ok, that it wasn't their fault. They were just responding to an action that was taken by the store manager. The company said that of all of these incidents that they had to deal with, that I was the one who took it the most lightly and they were surprised. Well, it wasn't them who accused me. It was the store manager. But either way, after this incident, it does disturb me a little bit and I am considering wether to continue on with Schneider or move on after my 1st year. Schneider seems like a good company and I'm happy with them, especially after the nice bonus, but my question is this...Should I continue on with this company (weekly salary, take home pay $800) or move on to a better company after my 1st year? Experienced drivers, you input is great appreciated. My hats off to you guys.

I just read your post and glad you were able to come through this mess still having a job and didnt mess it up by going in and having a confrontation with this lady. It might have gotten you fired even if you passed your breathalizer test. Always keep a cool head. As far as your question about what you should do, its a personal thing, after your time is up with Schid, look around and talk to some drivers with different companies and see whats out there and where you want to be in the future, like otr,
regional, home daily , home weekends,. Once you decide what your goals are then go from there. I dont know how much longer you'll be with Schid, but give them your best and hope you find the path your looking for.hobbypassion21 Thanks this. -
You know what, it seemed like afterward, once she saw me returning to the truck, that she was trying to get a rise out of me and provoke some sort of confrontation. I heard her laughing in the background while I was approaching my truck. I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE THAT THERE ARE PEOPLE LIKE THAT IN THIS WORLD THAT'LL TRY THEIR BEST TO BRING YOU DOWN. I have been talking to drivers lately and I have been getting good feedback from other company drivers. There are other good options out there. Thanks for your positive feedback. Be safe out there. Winter is right around the corner.

I'm sure you already thought this, but prudence demands ANY company after an accusation, wrongly or not, require the driver to take some kind of satisfactory drug test. And if their is nothing to hide then it should be no big deal, right? However it still sucks nonetheless!!
This is something everyone should realize is part of life that there are going to be people that you'll come across that will just be jerks. You did exactly what you should have done and kept your cool. This I'm sure is why Schneider was surprised as many would have gone postal! :smt068Big Don Thanks this. -
And luckily you work for a decent outfit (pumpkin).
There are some companies that just don't understand these things,
and simply replace the driver !!! -
She may have been laughing but I guarantee it buddy you have the last laugh on this one. Her reputation and judgement are both in question and even if slightly, damaged. Way to handle this one, it could happen to any of us.

You a man or a mouse? Why would you take this lying down? Once is a mistake on the part of a manager, and could easily be explained. Now shes just laughing at you.
Wouldn't be a next time if it was me. But then again, im a man not a mouse and job be ######. -
You are absolutely right. Jerks are a part of life, especially in the trucking industry

Yes, Schneider does seem like a good company. They even advised me not to go back to the store and had another Schneider driver there with me to either: a) prevent me from going into the store or b) to help me with my bags and take me home.

I hope it doesn't happen to any of us. And if it does, always keep in mind that they are probably doing this because they are not happy with their life and want the same for you. Don't give them that satisfaction.scorekeeper Thanks this.
