Second Chance Trucking

I'm not sure, but to me, paying someone with a checkered past roughly 1/3 of the going rate for work is exploiting them. They have to be turning one heck of a profit on their operation, because they have found a way to cut their labor expenses by anywhere from 50-60%. If they are hiring parolees, how do they get around the common release provision that a parolee not associate with other former criminals. Seems that putting two parolees together would violate that provision.

I realize that it is tough getting restarted after a mistake, but this does sound like a form of exploitation to me.

 

.10 a mile as a team. I assume that's .20 split.

I can flip burgers SOLO at Micky D's for that amount, when you deduct OTR expenses and taxes.

The industry average is .42 split so you are being exploited.

I agree that .10 cpm (.20 split) is exploitive. Figure it out and it's like maybe $300/wk. Deliver pizzas for 40 hrs/wk and make more. For now, that's what I'm doing, while getting my CDL and I get $6.75/hr + $1 per delivery +tips. Last week it worked out to about $17/hr, plus it is "professional driving experience". Also it's fun. Man you see some CRAZY things.

 

Many companies will hire people with felonious pasts... Werner, JBHunt, Southern Cal, etc. etc. A simple google search will turn up various names. Different violations have different responses. An example of a friend of mine, Old Dominion will hire a convicted murderer but they will not hire someone with a theft charge. The person with the theft charge never served a day in jail and was subsequently pardoned by the state. He is still considered unemployable by the vast majority of LTL companies because of the nature of his conviction.

 

Get used to it. There is alot of armchair otr drivers here.

 

I can tell you really want the answer to these questions, but your too vague on the "criminal past", how long ago are you talking and how bad was it. I'm not trying to dig up the past, but if you read some of the other threads on here, from people with "criminal pasts", they really don't get specific answers until they disclose the past. Example - if it's drugs from 15 years ago or drugs 6 months ago - big difference according to trucking companies and getting hired. Maybe if you get alittle more specific you'll get the answers you want. Don't take offense to the answers your getting either - these people (most) really do want to help you, and they will, just be honest and patient. I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors!

 

10-4.....without a deep legal/moral/ethical fracas, I'd like to find work for a guy with a very good driving/on time delivery record that got caught on a drug screen for smoking pot. Results..you get fired, lesson learned, move on. Any LEADS? 'preciate it.
