If it just happened, there was not enough time for it to get on the CB.

Sure he was 24 and inexperience. But you experienced drivers don't think nothing can happen to you because it can in a split second.

I was southbound I-95 through CT about 3am about 12 years ago. Another 18 was passing me and the middle of his trailer was even with me when we crested a little hill in the road. Right on the other side of the hill was a woman just sitting in my lane in the dark. I could see her eyes in her rear view as I lit her up. I locked em down and swerved at the last second missing the 18 and her both by inches.

I was too shook up and was too late to get stopped. I did get on the CB and called 911. I never heard anything so maybe she made it.

But that's how quick something can happen. If I was reaching for something or changing the stereo, I would of nailed her. Something similar could of happened here.

There was another time on a dark rainy night it was pitch dark out. I'm cruising along and all I could see was a faint shade of black against black. I looked and looked harder and something didn't seem right. But I couldn't see crap. Then I seen a light off in the distance disappear and I broke her down. There was a boom truck that rolled on it's side in the middle of the road with his bottom side facing me. The black undercoating against the black background, you just couldn't see him. Had it not been for that light it would of been a different story. He could of easily got nailed.
I broke out my flares, called 911 and hung around to the law got there. The driver was alright. He climbed through the windshield.

It doesn't matter how good you think you are, there are somethings you can't avoid. This being a chain of events, it's hard to point fingers. The van shouldn't of panicked and locked em down knowing an 18 was behind him. That was dumb on his part.

I went to trucking school with this driver we both took the 480 hr course so as far as not being trained enough you can forget that. I have heard Roehl has one of the best training as far as I know. It is a very safety oriented company from what I understand and I was told the van didnt even have working taillights. Like I said I know the driver, he's a great guy clean record and a good head on his shoulders, don't be quick to judge

It is a shame that most people would jump on the truck driver first. When they don't know what even happened. It's a sad tragedy. I don't know maybe the driver should have a nice civil suit against the van. Overloaded with too many occupants speeding were they legally in this country.

Once again...CDL 'mills' don't train drivers. They assist new candidates in getting their license so they can go to work for a training company and learn to drive. Blaming the CDL schools for poor drivers is like blaming a university for turning out a degreed person that knows nothing.

Quit complaining about the CDL 'mills' and start helping these new drivers learn the business.
Us 'old timers' usually got less training before hitting the road, than these new drivers. We've just conveniently forgotten.

Who's to say the minivan didn't swerve into Roehls lane at the last second to avoid the deer. My God... it's fortunate for the driver that some of you aren't investigating this accident. You have already made your conclusions as to the cause without even looking at physical evidence and witness statements. I have an idea, how about waiting until the conclusion of the investigation before you cast any blame on this driver. He may very well be an innocent man, in the wrong place at the wrong time. Some people just never cease to amaze me. Everyone's an expert. Having said all that. My thoughts and prayers to all the victims of this accident. And unlike what some of you believe, that even includes the Roehl driver. I hope some of you never serve on any juries !!

I'm waiting on more information to make my judgement. Regardless of the outcome and placement of blame, 7 people are dead, and one driver, a 24 year old young man, is out of a job for the forseeable future, and has to live with the fact that he hit an overloaded vehicle and the resulting aftermath.

That's why I put " the latest story in Gary" I didn't say it was the gospel, or even the truth, I said story. Look up the definition of "story" and get back to me
