If you're home every weekend I guarantee you that you won't drive 4,000 miles a week..... Legally.

It's a good thing these companies are gone.

Most CDL graduates leave the industry because they were never cut out for it.
They are lied to over and over.
They are told about the 'big' money they will make.
They are told about the glory of being a trucker.
Had they been told the truth (and believed it) they wouldn't have gone into it.
But when they sit around watching daytime TV and it's ads from driving schools, or trucking companies, they figure, "why not?"
Training companies don't vet potential candidates properly because they are in the business of training drivers and collecting government money.
Same as universities are in the business of convincing young people that a degree is where it's at.
No one talks about the hard work, the hours, the commitment.
It's all about the government money.
Take that away and the student industry would collapse.

    THBatMan8 and RickG Thank this.

First chance I've had to comment having just finished my first solo week with Roehl. Some said it would be "hell week" and in some ways it has been but I've had a great time finally doing what I spent a lot of my money, time and effort on.
I applaud Roehl for their training and emphasis on safety. They stressed it over and over and during my training made it the highest priority. At 54 and this being my second career I was lost and after deciding to be a driver I spent weeks researching companies that take on newbies and kept coming back to Roehl for good reason. Their safety program.
In my first week I have seen drivers of 4 and 18 wheels do crazy stuff. I have also seen many very sane and courteous drivers both ways. Pretty intense driving through West Virginia at night in the rain which turned to snow and have 4 and 18 wheelers fly by me like I'm standing still. Not a fun night but I know with experience I'll be able to deal with the stress on a better level.
Relieved to have many 4 wheelers flash lights and allow me to merge on ramps in this slow moving beast I call home:biggrin_25514:
ALL the victims ( dead and alive) in this tragedy have my thoughts and prayers. I hope and pray this kind of thing will never happen during my shift.

We have no work ethic anymore. Everyone wants free handouts. Thats part of the reason why our economy is in the shape it's in. People think the 'American Dream' is about owning a 2 million dollar home and 5 200,000 dollar cars.

Be VERY careful when a 4 wheeler flashes their headlights . That function is most commonly referred to as "flash to pass " and drivers often flash their lights when they intend to pass .

Not where I came from. The school I got my cdl gave no such impression.
The company I work for did not either.
I did not sit around and let daytime tv decide my career for me.
I did sit around for a while in between careers watching Jerry Springer and Judge Joe Brown.
I made this decision with my eyes wide open and the knowledge that this is not a sit on your ### and enjoy the ride all day job.
Much of this knowledge was gathered here, from my cdl school, my employer and the rest by using my brain and the common sense God gave me.
I was also told I'd make S*^% money. That part is true.
    At least for the beginning.

Thanks RickG. I realize that and have done that once or twice in my 38 years as a 4 wheeler. I should have mentioned this scene was in the daytime down here in Fl not in the mountains of WV at night. I probably won't put much trust in anything there but my Jake!
