At last, the new highway bill has been passed and everyone who owns a class 8 truck can now pay their 2290 HVUT tax. You have just got to love the way these politicians think. Normally due in July, we could not pay it until the new bill passed. It would have been nice had they forgotten to include the extra tax in the bill, but it was not to be. The tax must be paid beginning November 1, 2011 and will be considered late if not paid by November 30, 2011. For those new to truck ownership, the tax is $550/year. Welcome to being a truck owner.
By the way, the UCR tax will be due at the end of the year. I just got my bill a couple of days ago. If you only own 1 or 2 trucks I believe the tax is $79 this year. This tax is based upon the number of units that you own.

how much pay the old owners 550 $ OR MORE
-
The tax is the same every year, regardless of who owns it.
-
And for those that don't know, the 2290 goes with the truck. Something to consider when buying used.
-
i know is 550$,only i was thinking were have only to pay a part from this and next year were pay the full price ,for the troubles from the gov, when i go home next weekend i pay my 550 $

The 2290 doesn't necessarily go with the truck any more. They change the rules a couple of years ago. It can go with the truck or the seller can request a refund of anything left on the 2290. If the seller doesn't request the refund, then the new owner can keep the 2290 and not have to pay it until the next tax year. -
Whether or not you can only pay a portion of the 2290 depends on when you put the truck into service. You need to check with your local IRS office or go on line and see if you qualify for a prorated fee or will need to pay the entire amount. www.irsforms.gov. You may even be able to do a search for 2290 and find the answer. You will need a paid receipt before you will be allowed to purchase base plates and get your cab card. -

That link will take interested taxpayer's to the official IRS gov site and form where you can complete it online and print out the form to either mail or hand deliver it to your friendly, local IRS offices.
P.S. Many IRS offices are located inside federal buildings and you may not be allowed to enter with large belt buckles, chain drive wallets, camera-capable phones, etc. And remember to wear clean underwear...like Mom told ya. Oh yeah...and no guns.
