Look, all im saying is you dont know all homeless guy's story. I was see'ing this thread snowball into creative ideas to make their already miserable lifes a little more crappy.
Truckers always talk about how everyone hates them, DoT, ChP, 4wheelers that can't stand to let you over, dispatchers treating you like a monkey, shippers ignoring you, recivers ignoring you, security guards messing with you etc etc.... who likes homless people? NOBODY. it was starting to look like its cool to hate homeless people in this thread. Im not trying to offend or start a fight i just want people to realize not all homeless people chose to be homeless drug addicts that want to steal and kill you. -
I treat people who work for a living with respect, and I usually get it back. I cant think of any situation that would cause me to sit on a corner begging total strangers for change. Sorry, just wouldnt happen. I would sooner go door to door asking people if I can mow their lawn, rake their leaves, shovel their driveway etc for some cash or a meal. I dont believe in handouts!
Plus, they are almost always going to take your money and buy alcohol or drugs with it. -
Bull squeezed nonsense. People are where they are because of the decisions they have made. Oh there is always some sob story, or mental illness story, or addiction story. Simple fact people are where they are because of decisions they have made.
While I do not hate homeless people as that would be a waste of energy, I trade with no one not offering something of value in return. So when approached I take my trade for their wasting my time with entertainment.moderndrifter Thanks this. -
no excuse for most of these bums......i was homeless at one time too and lived in a '71 VW an entire winter but you know what? I never stopped looking, was persistent and didn't let the situation get to me and I GOT A JOB.
so can they. there are jobs out there, most of the lazy bums just don't want to do them or put forth the effort to find one and clean their act up.
I was raised to have compassion as well but I only help those who help themselves. and seeing the same old ones day in and day out along the routes I run, it's their racket and that's what they do. they don't want to do any better. screw 'emBishop73 and Gearjammin' Penguin Thank this. -

Does it matter if a homeless guy is vet or not? Treat them with respect, and keep in mind that the mentally ill amongst the homeless will probably eventaully snap and attack someone.

I usually just tell them I have no money, this is why I am a working truck driver and then ignore them and /or tell them to get the f*** away from me.
I have thought of making a sport of this by buying a tazer (the one with the shooting out prongs) and then when they approach me, pull it out and tell them run now as this is your head start. As they either stay or are running away, you try and taze them. You only get one try per contestant and get different points for lot lizards, bums, drunken bums, etc -
If they ask me for money I normally say look here, my windows, mirrors and break lights need to be cleaned. If you want to make a couple of bucks you can clean them for me. I give them my windex and some paper towels and let them get to work. I'll give em 2 or 3 bucks or sometimes even a 5 if I've got it. When its all said and done I have clean mirrors and windows and they have EARNED a few bucks and maybe, just maybe they will walk away feeling a little more like a human being than an animal like most people treat them. I don't care why they're homeless. They're somebody's son or daughter and possibly somebody's mother or father. I know how I've felt in the past when I was down on my luck and had to borrow money knowing I had a job and was able to pay it back. Imagine how belittling it must be to walk up to a total stranger and ask for money while knowing you will never be able to pay them back.
Gearjammin' Penguin, OPUS 7, hotrod1018 and 9 others Thank this. -
Why dont you try being a driver for once and having one of these guys come up to ya in the middle of the night behind you while your checking your oil, etc and see how you react? I garauntee its not going to be respectable in any way as you just got the holy crap scared out of you. Heck I love it when I am just trying to fuel my truck during the day and they nwalk up behind me trying to get money. I bet you would have all kinds of respect and compassion for these guys.harleymanjax Thanks this.
