I sure do remember the right side of them! Don't remember what the left side looked like if I ever did!
Then there was the old Humping to Please guys! Remember the camels? The yard here in Springfield is still there and there was an old trailer in the back but I haven't been by there in a long time, so I don't know if it's still there.
Yeah, the old days are gone and only memories are left. What happend to them someone asked in another thread about the "good old days" Time happened to them. As what always happens we get old and watch as the younger crowd takes over and all we can do is watch progress march on.Logan76, Big Don and NSteinbecker Thank this. -
I ran with lots of them when I was on team duty with Peck Meat Packing out of Milwaukee.
We ran a lot like Monfort did... we could do three east coast turns per week (deadhead back) then, on that last load, we'd go get a load of swinging from our kill plant in Gibbon, NE and be back in Milwaukee Saturday night. Leave out again on Sunday morning.
We often ran 8000 miles per week...
One run I often ran had a stop in Aliquippa, PA on Sunday night (we unloaded swinging ourselves... maybe 20-30 head) then we would have two stops in Hartford, CT and a final in Auburn, ME by noon on Monday.
We'd be back in Milwaukee Tuesday morning, do a drop and hook, then off to NYC to deliver on 133rd and Broadway on Wednesday AM. back to Milwaukee, another drop and hook Thursday, then off to Landover, MD to Giant foods for Friday... then to NE then home.
We made 10 cpm plus a nice retirement plan and 100% paid medical... not bad.spindrift and NSteinbecker Thank this. -
This was in 79 I took a trip with my dad real fast trip it turned out to Omaha to Pop Bottling Plant out there. We picked up a load of Empty Pop Bottles in Streator and ran them out to the Plant. Well we got off to a late start due to the Glass Plant having an Issue dad hated to be LATE. He hammered on it when we got out of IL. We got behind these 2 Monforts he grabbed his CB and said HEY MONFORT GET ThE HELL OUT OF YOUR LANE I GOTTA GO. ONe of them piped back no one can pass us. He went I would already be BY YOU if your slow trucks would move over. BTW his truck was the same one that he got clocked in NV doing 147 in so he knew it would FLY. Monfort Pulled there trucks over and He let her rip they tried to keep up with us and failed. He called in the next morning boss goes where are you he went Emptyied out with a load of Pallets coming back. Boss went WTH you left here 5 hours ago.
I still have that Warning from that one cost him a Ham and Egg Breakfast from Boomtown to get out of that one.NSteinbecker Thanks this. -
