You have to watch these Ham guys, they sometimes get confused as to what radios most of us drivers are talking about and drift off "frequency" real bad!!:biggrin_25522:

Because it's a base station antenna that is for 10-40 meter ham radios.

The antenna type and height makes or breaks any radio, be it CB, ham, business band, or whatever. Base station antennas as a rule will allow you to transmit and receive farther than mobile antennas will. The higher an antenna is, the farther you can transmit and receive, provided it has a low swr. Also a beam antenna allows you to transmit and receive farther than an omni direction antenna.

However a base station antenna is not feasible on a big truck. In fact due to height restrictions, most trucks cannot run the optimal mobile CB antenna size (which is 9 ft) so they run smaller antennas. Those smaller antennas unfortunately hinder your range, and thus linear amps are used to compensate.

YEP nothing like a base antenna to extend range however you can't use one on a truck ....
