C16 Con rods are different to the Acert but the same as the C15 non Acert.
The Acert Crank has the same stroke as the C16 but Bigger Journals like the real old 3406 cranks at 103mm as opposed to 96mm from memory.
I guess you could use 5.4 Pistons and liners if you had a Acert Crank and Rods but I doubt its all worth it. A well built C16 with the right HP will work well just don't rev its ### off and get rid of the Factory Turbo and the excessive Back pressure it has that creates the high Exhaust temps.KB3MMX, Cat sdp, t800kwopper and 1 other person Thank this. -
I have just rebuilt my C16 with a new block hopefully this will stop the liner problems we have been having also I will be putting the Garrett non wastegated ball bearing turbo to control the EGTs and I will live with the turbo lag as well as putting on a bullydog tuner this might help with the lag.KB3MMX Thanks this.

I run with a guy with a c15 625. His last truck had a c16 600. Both trucks have the same drive line spects. 18 speed, 4.11:1 rears, 11R 24.5s. He says the old c16 600 would run circles around the c15 625. All I know is a 107,000lbs. that 625 cat makes my 530 cummins look sick and I think my truck run good.

To build a 15.2L.....you will need the complete rotating assembly......crank, rods. pistons, and liners. As Far Call said the rods are much wider at the crank journal.......so rods and crank have to be mated. As far as compression, the later C15Acert 600-625 Hp engines use a lower compression piston of 15.2:1 ratio if my memory is correct

Thanks for the info, men. Greatly appreciated.
A local guy has a C16 and newer C-15, 600hp. Just as melpromud said, the 16 outpulls the 15 every time. -
CAT Rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How is it that 25hp could make that much of a difference? I know there could be a lot of torque difference, but that much?
-
The difference isn't 25 Hp.............it's the fact one is a C-16 600 Hp engine with the earlier emissions specifications. The C-16 600 Hp engine will run past the 625 Hp C15 Acert engine all day long. The stroke of these two engines is the same, but the C15 Acert has a slightly smaller bore when comparing Cubic Inch Displacement. This is why one is called a C-16 15.8 Liter engine and the other is called a C15 15.2 Liter engine
The problem is the C15 Acert 625 hp engine meets a more stringent emission standard and this hurt throttle response and pulling power, even though it is supposed to have 25 more horsepower.
The peak torque of either of these two engines is rated by CAT at 2050 ft-lbs at 1200 RPMjosh polk, Marc Tanner, t800kwopper and 1 other person Thank this. -
So how do the 2 compare in mpg when driven the same? Are there ecm flashes that will help the mpg of the c 16?
