I wouldn't want to start flat with winter coming, this is the slow time of year for flats, and with the economy sputtering along, that doesn't help either. Just my two cents...

No one should be starting out pulling flatbeds. In my opinion that takes a lot of special skill that new guys just do not have yet, and put getting comfortable in their truck on top of it. Hats off to the ones who have done it.

Try being brand new, in training, middle of the night, with snow flying and your trainer is in the sleeper with the curtains drawn. Did I mention you aren't supposed to use your jakes or brakes to slow down going down the mountains? No I wasn't with Roehl, I was with Star out of Morton and that was my introduction to driving.

Wow, I didn't realize that much Roehl freight was picked up, delivered or just rolled thru this area each week. I actually live in Irmo, SC and have been in school in Orangeburg, SC the last 5 weeks. Been trying to really pay attention to what trucks I see moving around in this area. Yall pull paper from the mill in Georgetown, SC too?
About how often are you getting home? I can see both sides of the flatbed opinions. It is definitely something I want to do but I need to really learn how to drive first. School hasn't been a problem so far but they aren't teaching us to drive, they are teaching us to pass the cdl test. I really appreciate the responses from eveyone!! Be safe out there.
