Okay, here's the story:
My brother had a life changing diabetic emergency in July that he is still recovering from. He had been on oral medication, but apparently, it wasn't working as it should have. He ended up in the hospital for several months going through blood clot removal from his extremities, skin grafts and a lot of physical therapy. While there, his sugar levels were initially regulated by insulin. During this time, he lost over 40 pounds and now no longer even needs oral medication.
He wants to get back truckin.
Does he have to get a waiver? Will he have to wait an entire year since hospital staff gave him insulin? Can he simply get return to work clearance from his doctor?
I've had a difficult time finding anything definitive on this, so any answers with links to specific FMCSRs and guidances would be greatly appreciated.

my uncle had his controlled thru insulin for a long time now he is on nothing as well. The whole time he remained driving on his boom truck he only holds class b but as far as i understand it is one of those things as long as it is controlled and maintains it does not matter but i could be totally wrong it could just be poeple at his company over looking it to help him out

I'm sure the physical doctor will pass him. It's worth the $40-50 to try before he attempts to sign on somewhere.
Glad he's doing better. Sounds like I'm going down the same road as him.
They'll put you on insulin in the hospital because the blood thinners or anastesia or something don't mix with the Metformin. They did me that way too.
Hopefully I can get back in the seat. I hate this at home stuff.

They have the exemption out now.
Have you looked into it?Injun Thanks this. -
I know that being on insulin is a disqualifing med., My best friend is diebetic, when he lost a lot of weight he didnt need to take the shot anymore, but once the weight returned, he was back on insulin, When he was no longer on insulin, he tried to get a CDL, and was denied, they said, It was because he was diagnosed with be diebeticInjun Thanks this.

No. Didn't even know aboutit. Information and link, please? Bro is California based.
Thank you to everyone taking the time to read and answer.
Condo, I sincerely hope you are able to get back in the seat. I remember how disappointed you were when your medical card was jerked. It had to have hurt to see your truck drive away without you in it. Praying for your success. -

It's suppose to change around in January. But he wasn't even insulin dependant. Sounds like they put him on it because it was the only alternative of a medicine confliction.
Was he diagnosed with PAD or anything like that? They have certain restrictions against past vascular diseases.
If I get better, I'm going to get a letter from my doctor saying it's okay to drive. Then I will attempt a private DOT physical and then try to get a job.
I think your brother should do the same thing.Injun Thanks this. -
I also meant this for you as well.
