If you got a CDL or Even a Permit. You can be hired ma man. I only have a Permit at this moment here. I will have my CDL Before I hit Texas and Halliburton still hired me. If I had my CDL and I was you; I would get over to N Dakota and grab me a Job.

You see everyone is there in North Dakota; but very few have a CDL based on Percentage. Even Fewer Have experience when based on percentage. You will be picked up for a Job if you get there.

You have a CDL apply for Halliburton and You will get picked up ma man. Then once your in the game for 90days or so then you can move up to N Dakota. Just get in the Game first... If I can do it with no oil experience at all, I'm sure you can with a CDL.

it depends on where but even the worst parts are no where as bad as ND. You can find a place in sonora no problem. Midland you can find something but you'll be paying much more than you should.

I tell you what, if you can get a rv or have one, then bring it. You dont need it here in texas but its gonna simplify things tremendously.....espeacially to your pocket book and your peace of mind.

Sounds good. I've been going back and forth between this thread and the ND threads. ND is where I really want to be, but it sounds like TX is more willing to hire newbies. I'll be getting my CDL within the next 2-3 months. Maybe after putting 6 months or so in the TX fields I could transfer up to ND .....

Thanks to all the posts on this board I have been able to find out about jobs in Texas and ND. Applied a few places in Texas and have been contacted by a couple. I am in no way hired yet but one company said will let me know something Monday. I hope and old guy can hack it. Thanks everyone for the information.

They are, I believe they are hiring 3 more crude drivers and another coke driver. They are about to have a big bump in the number of wells they service and the coke work never stops. We haul ALL of the coke from the Conoco Phillips refinery in Westlake Louisiana, fuel and premium coke. Where I am working now is a half mile from the Citgo refinery and 4 miles from the Conoco Phillips refinery.

Coke is the residue left at the bottom of the cracker when they refine oil. It's black like coal but forms little BB like balls. They cook it in a giant cylinder then break it out with high pressure water. It's used to fuel the power plant that runs the refineries down here, and the premium version is used to make white pigment for all kinds of products like oreo cookies. Hard to believe they make white pigment out of something charcoal grey. Coke is hauled in end dumps, you pull under the big silo at the refinery and get loaded up, then you haul it to the power plant. It's not a difficult job, 12 hour days 4am to 4pm with day and night shifts rotating from week to week. 5 days on 2 days off 5 days on 3 days off, so every two weeks your weekend moves forward a day. I'll let you know how that is in a couple months when I have some time on that system.
