Is Driving Better Equipment Worth a Slightly Lower Pay?

To me, a difference of a few CPM is insignificant. Depends on the spread and other factors. CPM is not the only thing that contributes to my decision.

However, based upon the limited scope of the question, yes....better equipment (assuming again the difference is significant in my eyes) would be worth it for a few cents per mile.

 

Lower quality equipment that isn't maintained typically breaks down more. More break downs = less money.

Depends on what you mean by lower vs higher quality.

 

There is no reason you can't have both.
What you save in older equipment is made up with maintenance.
If you're an O/O, you can certainly make more money with older equipment, but companies that run older stuff usually are bidding freight lower so there isn't any profit to share with the drivers.
Personally, I like newer, better maintained equipment.

 

I don't see why not.

I know a couple of hundred idiots in El Paso, that drive for .25 a mile. Just so they can ride in style...in a Peterbuilt.

 

This obviously won't be so black-and-white with so many variables.

 

Are we talking higher quality as in Peterbilt/KW vs Freightliner. Or are we talking about a new truck vs a early 90's without proper maintenance?

'04 9900 eagle cummins better than '08 prostar suxxforce, which is still better than a NEW volvo

 

My freightshaker may not be brand new, but she pulls pretty good, and I haven't had a single hiccup out of her. On top of that I got the shop records when I was placed in her and at half a million she has had nothing except routine maintenance. As long as she runs well, and the company takes care of things I will drive what they give me. Driving a "large car" isn't incentive enough for me to take a pay cut.
