I guess the main thing all newbies worry about is getting the trainer that does not train, never takes a shower, and basically being stuck with that for 6 weeks.

He would most likely lose his brakes half-way down and end up rolling the truck.

I see it all the time. Students that have been with a good trainer drive like a pro within their first year. Students with a "know it all" attitude are the ones that will cause accidents. It doesn't matter how much experience you think you have. You're going to cause a accident.

I had a couple of Swift trucks pull this one on me the other week. Luckily, the 3rd lane was clear and I merged onto it giving the Swift trucks the 2nd lane. If that lane wasn't clear, yeah; both trucks would have ate the guard rail.

If you don't like your trainer, don't get along or feel they are not training you properly then call up your company and have them get you another trainer. Not a big deal and it happens all the time. You want to make sure that you are learning what you are supposed to and not just making someone's paycheck fatter or paying for their truck!

Regardless, you are going to be running hard, or its going to seem like you are running hard due to the fact that you have never done it before. If you are running over 5500 miles a week then you know you are just making someone's truck payment. I heard one newbie complain that their trainer was running them so hard and felt like they were just going to fast. When I asked how many miles a week they were running she replied, "2800"!

Watkins/Shephard has no "ride along" with a trainer....you do 10 days of orientation that is meant to "teach" you "all you need to know to get started"!

for some it works...other it doesn't.

    Your call I guess!

That's my main concern. I can deal with all types, except these two kinds. Eh, gotta start somewhere so man up I guess.

I am Heading to Schneider in Dallas Tomorrow. I am straight out of CDL school.

I have been told from various recruiters at Schneider that Orientation will be 7 days, then 2 to 3 weeks with a trainer...We shall see!

Exactly -it's training not a joy ride.

And as others have said, if you do get the trainer from hades then call the company and get someone else! The ONLY person you hurt if you continue on with a trainer that you are not learning from is YOU and the rest of the motoring public!!!!
