That is exactly what happens. It's a total joke. However, when the thing is working correctly... some nature nazi can hold carbon dioxide meter up to your exaust and it will read as passible to his little accountability chart.

Just never hold the meter there when going though a regen cycle...

The purpose of the Regen is to incinerate the soot....The ceramic media retains the soot until it becomes necessary to clean the media.....

 

Supposedly if you properly maintain and service your vehicle....You should be able to go upwards of 300K before you need to clean the filter media....

"Supposedly" is the keyword.....I have heard from Cummins techs where trucks were brought in as early as 120K for a cleaning.....

 

But why?....That would be the best time to hold a CARB Nazi's head over the stacks....During a regen.....
