OK here is a question. I will soon be in training. I will be "invading" the work space/office of another driver. What is proper? Be helpful dont be helpful, speak when spoken too, ask questions but not be annoying, do the paper work/fueling ect...I guess in short form as an experienced driver how do you expect your rookies/newbies to act...

First and foremost only take the bare minimum of stuff. Second do your job (ie Drive the truck fuel clean the windshield do the paper work) If you don't know how Ask. Third Dont eat the burrito bombs from the truck stops.

It's not typically invading. He's getting paid to train you.
Be helpful. When he want's to chat, chat. I used to run team, and sometimes, I just wanted to chill and drive. If you get that vibe, lay down and let him have some peaceful time.
Split the fueling, you are his trainee, not his slave. Fuel one side while he does the other, wash the windows if he is fueling the reefer, etc.
Be clean, respectful of his stuff, respectful towards his ride.
If he's a good trainer, he will want to teach you without preaching to you. If he uses the words "me" or "my way" excessively, he's probably got a little bit of an ego.
I drove for 31 years. 11 of them team. Trained a few as well. I've seen a lot of different driving styles, so don't assume every thing he does is the only way to do things. I've had newbies fresh out of school teach me a trick I had never thought of before.
As you progress in driving, remember. The day you think you "know it all" is the day you are cooked. Something will humble that attitude right out of you.
Good luck.Working Class Patriot, buddy_bill, Wargames and 2 others Thank this. -
your starting off right ! It's his truck ! just follow his lead and show respect. Most good trainers will sit with you for a bit and talk about expectations and ask you what you want out of this. Make sure you pack light as there is not much room and one last thing
Never ever Crap in his trash can ! when I was with my trainer that's all he talked about was the guy before me crapped in his trashcan.
Good Luck !SHC, buddy_bill, Wargames and 2 others Thank this. -
If your trainer craps his pants, just let it slide.
Wargames Thanks this. -
What's his isn't yours. What's yours shouldn't be thrown all over the truck.
