Just wanted to give props to Oakes & Sons, my soon to be new employer. This is a small outfit and they owner is willing to take a chance and take a newbie into his company and train them.
I come to him with a CDL permit, just obtained. At the 1st of the year I will be training with him to learn to drive a truck, do the paper work and strap loads for the flatbed industry. He is willing to pay me 450/week, what I consider a good training wage while he does this. Also in the mean time he is letting me come to the yard and practice pre-trip and manuvering skills until we hit the road.
He didnt have to do any of this but is taking a chance and did!![]()

good luck, sounds like a good deal. Just a side note make sure you stay there until you get a year of Experiance or you may have to go to school to get on with someone else.

Ive seen that in a lot of post on here and take that advice to heart. Im a "job keeper" not a "Job hopper" and he is wanting to take time and train me right since he is the company owner and I'll be using his equipment so I figure a year will fly by pretty quick....

It's a rarity having somebody take in a rookie like that. Absorb everything you can, the learning doesn't stop after you get out of school. You'll enjoy flatbedding. It can be hard at times but there are a lot of challenges and never a dull moment.
Good luck.The Challenger Thanks this.
