with e logs, you can do a split log and the computer takes care of all the math.

It shows your last 8 days hours, and so when you discover you dont have the hrs to do a load, you cann tell the office, look at my hrs for the last 8 days.

95% of the scales i cross , see the elog sticker on the side of the truck, and pass me thru.

In the the 3 years i have been on them, i haven't had any violations.
    Helps you plan trips better.

I have no problems with elogs, and actually I have been able to use it to my advantage since I take more advantage of the split sleeper, since the machine tells me my hours instead of me making a mistake either misunderstanding what I actually have left timewise, or just an old fashioned mistake with the calculator.

Of course there are days I absolutely hate it, for example just the other day I had the opportunity to deliever my load early, I was about 62 miles away with 1 hour left on my clock, on paper obviously it could have been done, on the elog I had to make the call to shutdown and deliver the following morning at my regular scheduled time and lose the preplanned load waiting for me. However, I find these instances to be the exception rather than the rule.

My advice is to take the job, its a great opportunity, see how it pans out, I've followed your thread and its obvious to me you could leave W/S on good terms and if for whatever reason this job isn't for you, W/S would rehire you at the drop of a hat. Nothing ventured is nothing gained.

Good that it works for you....
We're always going to have a contingent that thinks that "I don't need a machine to tell me when I'm tired"....But they're the same ones who also think "I don't need some stupid government regulation to tell me when I'm tired..." as well....

My co has been using e logs for a few years now. They have their good points n bad points. One good point is how much more efficient I've become.

E-LOGS are not what I'd be worried about, I'd be more concerned about them not supplying EZ-PASS and prepass( tho prepass isn't too big a deal) but the ezpass could be a killer. You know it is $145+ cash price to run the PA turnpike, not to mention the $35 in Indiana and the $35 in Ohio. And if you are running around Chicago, have another $50 ready.... Just saying.

I run the same system. If I select Personal Conveyance and log off duty and sign out I can drive and it will not record anything. I ise this for when im bobtailing home. I also have found at the plant I deliver to that I have to log to On Duty and then unplug the unit from my data port or it will kick me back to Driving while rolling thru the large plant to swap my trailers. But overall I like it, but I also do a dedicated run with the same thing over and over and over.

    Mine won't kick on driving if I don't go over 10 m.p.h.

Instead of unplugging the unit why don't you speak with safety and explain that the automatcie setting may need to be tweaked so you can perform work at customers without logging drive time? Our auto switch used to be set at .7 miles, we've upped that to 2 miles and it would appear that it has corrected that issue.

We're at 3 miles and it seems to work out well.

So you taking this job or what?

I could do that but just driving from the in gate to the scale is 1.2 miles, then back into the plant to swap trailers, then back to the scale then out the gate is over 3 miles (all within the plants gates) so I find it easier to just reach down and unplug it.
