I just got the RFX 75 mod on my Cobra 29 Bluetooth. The barefoot bluetooth version is a better talking radio than most would think; it actually will swing about 4 to 5 watts deadkey out of the factory (which I haven't seen from any of the other 29 LTD versions). I was running a small 160W kicker before the mod, which was giving me about 50 or 60 watts out. With the RFX 75 this thing is now putting out about 85 watts, so I ditched the kicker (never got around to measuring my deadkey swing, though).

I am not a fan of the Cascadia's OEM antenna setup at all; works fine with a barefoot radio but, if you're running any kind of power, it will make your radio start squealing like a stuck pig. I'd finally found some "bird perch" mounts for the mirrors and mounted a stainless steel whip on each side with a 22-inch extension, effectively making them center-loaded whips. I had to bullhorn them slightly forward; mounting them straight vertically would have them standing so tall that I'd end up scraping bridges, tree branches and low-flying aircraft. The coax is running into the engine compartment and through the firewall (ridiculously simple to do in this particular model of truck).

Everything comes together in a T-junction at the radio. It works pretty well as long as (1) the antenna are exactly matched and (2) you have exactly the same length of coax running to each antenna. Doing anything else would throw your antenna pattern and your SWR's off by a bunch. And you have to check your SWR with both antenna connected, not one at a time (which would give you a definitely inaccurate reading). I'm getting about 15 miles of range from this setup, so I'm pretty happy.

 

well ran the new rig yesterday and had some probs with it had a cold solder joint so had to fix it lol all in all it ran awsome talked to Alaska and the uk no prob on 38 lsb put some noise toys in all in all i give the 2 radios an 8 with the set up i have now the galaxy pluto has over a 25 mile range on am ssb talk all over the world, as for the northstar dx 330 hml it does about the same but does not have ssb the oil loaded antenna dose not have as good as reception as the wilson antenna rec wise is about 10 miles shorter then the wilson 2000 if u want to go all out i would recommend striker antenna witch u can find Striker Antennas & Vinyl

they are very good antennas i have used them in the past and they have not disappointed me in one bit!
