hello I'm new to all of this, my husband is a class 1 driver in Hawaii we just got married in sept and I just moved to Alberta the same month. I found out that it will take about 10 months for his spouse sponsorship to be completed but I need him here faster than that , so my lawyer said to find a company that will sponsor him on a work visa first. He said that usually take 50 days to complete and be approved.
Oh and I am Canadian born and raised in NB but moved to Alberta because of my big brothers and my Mother ( they all live up here)

Please if anyone knows of any companies that would be willing to sponsor my husband can you please point me in the right direction ?
    thanks Crystal

Sanjel works both sides of the border. It is an oil company so the trucking is going to be alot different than regular over the road trucking but the money is alot more!!

Some things I found out about trucking in Canada... You cannot transfer CDL into Class 1 AZ!! If you have CDL you will have to surrender it in order to get a Class 5 which is a basic drivers license. If you want to drive Commercial in Canada, then you have to go a trucking school in Canada before you can get your AZ. In addition to this there are some extras... Like some companies will only recognize certain schools up there only. And some insurance companies will grant 3 years exp for certain schools only!! This helps when you are trying to find the jobs that pay really well!! There are jobs there that do pay extremely well and they are hard to get if you are not equipped with the right tickets!! In the US we call them endorsments!! The main ones are St. Johns Ambulance, TDG, Doubles/Triples. There are more depending on what type of driving your job entails and sometimes the location can dictate the type of ticket needed!! Basically, the only exception to all this is if you are transporting from the US to Canada, or if you have accepted employment from a company that is working both sides of the border, for example Bakkan Basin. This basin sits directly on both sides of the Canadian/US borders. If your man is going to go the long route to become a Canadian resident then he will have to go through immigration. If he can prove that he is in the skilled worker class such as a mechanic, then the application process is really fast. There is a list on there website. All the best!!

It's not like a Canadian class 1 transfers to the states either. I don't understand why this surprises so many us drivers trying to emigrate.
I would strongly recommend finding a border town where he can drive for a us company until his dual citizenship is approved. Then he can ignore cabotage and work wherever with his us license. Just keep a mailing address in the states and claim residency there on his taxes

That may be a requirement of some, but not all, companies, however it is not a requirement to gain a license. Anybody can take the written and driving parts of the test, no school required. An experienced driver should have no trouble. I had let my Class 1 lapse for about 8 years and hadn't even been in a truck for another 4-5 before that. I took about 4 hours of refresher driving in a local school's truck, read the book and voilà... Class 1 again.

It is NOT imperative to go to school. Just take the test.

From my point of view, I'd say it will be far easier for you to find a company that would sponsor your husband from the states. If he was from Europe, that would be nearly impossible unless he's from UK or Ireland. If its of any help, I can give you the list of emails of many companies from Canada that I've contacted from my sponsorship. If it's of any use to you....
