I use tapatalk on my iPhone to read this forum. It adds it automatically. I think I can turn it off but never figured out how.

Receipts don't mean anything when it comes to per diem. You get to claim $57 per day you are out but only 75% of that on the first and last day you are out. That's why log books are important. If you are on elogs, keep a journal since you won't have log books. No matter how much you spend you still claim a flat rate per day but if you buy stuff for the truck ( tools, CB, gloves, TV, etc) it can be itemized separately on your tax return. Claim your cell phone bill too!

Oh and whether anyone chooses per diem or non per diem, still work out the numbers on your taxes. In most cases, even if you are on per diem, you can still claim more per diem at the end of the year because you can claim the $57 per day on days you sit or your per diem part of your pay didn't total up to $57 that day. Make sense? You just have to subtract the amount of per diem you were paid from the total you can claim.

Some tax people are familiar with the difference between the avg per diem ie, traveling sales man, and the transportation workers per diem. All you need to tell them is how many full days u were out and keep your logs as proof for irs. You get 80% of irs declared rate, which is $59/day again this year. The day you leave and the day you return to your tax home you get a 3/4 day credit. So 59x0.8x0.75
I too am on straight pay but even if someone is on perdiem they should do this calculation as im sure you may not be getting the 47.20 on avg from company and if by some mistake the company paid you more than that the irs may come looking for the difference someday. -
So no receipts are needed? Just my log book? Thanks for all this info!!
