Wow, that's gunna be a challenge. Most companies require a work history verification partially for DOT audit reasons. The DOT want to keep track of terrorists that will just go into trucking (with no work history) so that they don't get access to a truck and go blow something up. The trucking companies are like any other job you apply to that wants to know you are a good employee, ect...

I was unemployed for quite a while when I went to CDL school and then got hired on at a company and they wanted proof or my unemployment which I had. Some companies that I applied to didn't like my employment history.. or perhaps lack of employment.. and I did not qualify to be a new hire.

My point.. based on my personal experience is that trucking companies will want to have proof or your employment history.. some require 3 years going back, some 5 and some up to 7 or 10 years.. just depends on the company. I have learned that some companies don't care that you were on unemployment or that you got payed under the table as long as you can prove it all. There was a guy in my OR 1 class that was in prison for 29 years and has only been out the passed 3 years, had work experience and was accepted and is currently working. A unique case I'm sure, but goes to show that there are second chances with limited work history.

So with all that said.. Some companies will accept you if you can get documentation together like paycheck stubs or a verifiable letter stating that you worked for a company between this date 00/00/00 to this date 00/00/00. Best thing is to be honest with the recruiter that you talk with and the recruiter can assist you in what proof they will require or that they can not work with you. Honesty is best.

    Best of luck

I worked under the table in Northern Cali - marijuana industry - and just lied on my application. Just keep applying until you come across a recruiter that is too lazy to actually verify your application.......worked for me. I'm a felon, too. Which is why Stevens turned me down (said you have to have been out of prison for 10-years which makes no ####### sense), but they didn't give a #### about my work history so I would try them.

Really? 10 years out of prison on a felony charge makes no sense to you? Perfect logic there.

Obviously you learned nothing from your incarceration. Exactly what we need in this industry is another POS.

Well, considering the only thing that shows up on a background check is when you were charged, not when you got out of prison, and every other company goes by the date of conviction, yes, it makes no ####### sense to have '10 years out of prison' as a standard. They have no way of determining when you got out of prison, so just ####### lie and say you never went. If someone committed a crime 30-years ago when they were a kid, and only got out of prison when they were, say, 47, should they have to wait an additional 10-years to get a ####### job? Like they need additional 10-years to think about what they've done? Lol.

I was imprisoned for something I didn't do.......what was there to learn? Not to be at the wrong place at the wrong time? Lol. Also, working in the marijuana industry, in Cali, was entirely legal. Not paying taxes wasn't, but oh well.......
