I have to admit from a outsider looking in some of these post are humorous and comical and very entertaining but confusing. I mean it seems to be the same every time someone says they like a company then no one believes him or he's a recruiter.
I often wonder if all these major companies are so bad why would anyone stay with them ,but there's allot of drivers who seem to do just that. If they were all just starter companies then there should'nt be anyone there past 2 years or they would all have moved on.
It seems to me allot of people get into OTR without much research and get fed up thinking the job is something its not. Then there are people who say they made up to 45k their first year when others say their starving and only made 26k and can't get any miles .
I'm sure with the economy its forced allot of people into trucking and they probally wish they were somewhere else but it is really confusing on what to believe .
Either these companies treat people this bad so they go through allot of people or they get allot of lazy people looking for an easy paycheck or both.
It makes it really hard to decide if this is something worth doing since I can make a living doing other things but always wanted to check out what OTR driving would be like.goodchoice10 and Ridinwithpride Thank this. -
Good points, OTR is not for the faint of heart. The high turnover rate is caused by that realization crashing down on folks after they are underway.
Give it a run if your interested.....you may find its the love of your life. I did!

I did post a picture of me holding my big girl panties but my readership fell off so much after that I decided some things are probably better kept private
goodchoice10 Thanks this. -
Spot on. I think in the cases where drivers are talking about their own experiences and not something that a truck stop waitress told a driver she heard another driver saying his cousin said these actually are their experiences with these different companies unless of course they are lying. That happens too. But if you can adapt to the lifestyle I think your reality will be based on what you're looking for. If you're looking for reasons to love this job and the company you work for you will find them. Same is true if you're looking for stuff to hate.

In Mr. Beckham's statement about the dismal third quarter, he said "The third quarter of 2011 presented several challenges. These included a major operating system transition, softer than expected freight volumes and a PERSISTENTLY high number of unmanned tractors............"
1. How does a company achieve a persistently high number of unmanned tractors?
2. How was the freight volume softer than expected? Everyone else expected soft freight.
For such a great company, seems like red flags to me.Ridinwithpride Thanks this. -
O.K.
I suppose we will have to defer to your better judgement
Ridinwithpride Thanks this. -

That would be a Goodchoice indeed

I like the disclaimer.
As for #1 I believe it's due to the higher standard that we now have in place for hiring drivers. Mr Beckham has stated before that he believes the long term costs are less if we focus on putting high quality drivers behind the wheel vs just finding somebody to fill the seats. That is my paraphrasing of his words but gets the point across.
For #2 I'm going to have to give you a WAG because that is way above my pay grade. I suppose that all the different companies out there made their own projections. Some were probably too optimistic. Some were probably too conservative. And a few probably hit the nail on the head. Seems from his statement that our projections were too optimistic.
#1 actually raises a green flag for me but I will give you a caution flag on #2.
