I was on I-20 Eastbound about miles 5 into Mississippi. Fortunately my alarm had woken me up few minutes before this happened and like I said there was something "wrong" about the knock on the truck. I did what I thought was best by staying inside my locked truck. Fuel can be replaced, the truck can be repaired, but it takes far too long to heal and any time I can avoid putting my favorite body at risk I will do so.
Stay safe and keep alert.nomadtrucker, DenaliDad and Rattlebunny Thank this. -
Best thing to do, especially if you are idling is to just drive away. Sometimes avoiding confrontation is the best thing you can do! I have been only been in a few of these situations and the dog took care of one and I drove away on the other. Still here to tell the boring story.
Keep in mind, someone messing with a trucker has a lot of balls and a lot of problems! Most likely have nothing to lose!

In case you haven't heard yet, the DOT passed a new rule on (11/23)
that makes using a hand-held cell phone while operating a truck or bus
illegal. Fines are up to $2,700 and suspension of your CDL.
Be careful using your phone while driving. I have not read the full text of the rule yet and it may only apply to handheld, not using a bluetooth. Just be careful. That is a lot of money to toss away. -
I just read the final 'rule'. It bans use of handheld phones. Bluetooth devices are still ok. Just don't get caught holding on to your cell phone while driving.
-
I had heard that the band included the use of bluetooth devices. But this was a couple of weeks ago. Has any-one heard anything on this?
-
ok.... found my answer....
... As discussed below, while operating ato conduct a voice communication...
CMV, the driver may only use a compliant mobile telephone, such as a hands free mobile phone,
If anyone is really bored... and needs something to read. (yes... I read most of it but started to fall asleep... lol)

Use to be a few states that just had the ban. We would always make it a practice to not be using the phone coming up on a prepass or scale. Its tough for drivers to not be on the phone, especially nowadays. Back to the good ol' CB I guess! A good friend of ours that used to drive otr would be on his phone constantly. If his tires were turnin his cellphone was burnin! I know that's got to be the case with most single drivers out there. In one way, yes it is a distraction even with the bluetooth. On the other hand it also keeps drivers from getting tired. I could see which way that argument would go in Congress though!
So I wonder how they will treat a co-driver in the passenger seat on the phone? Is this going to be illegal?
Hey Klingon, have you guys heard the story of the Central driver that was coming through WYO barrelin down one of the grades while watching porn on his laptop on the dashboard? YEP! Rear-ended another big truck doing about 70! Really got messed up bad but he survived. All of his teeth were actually stuck into the headliner above the drivers seat! They had his truck at the SLC graveyard for the longest time. It was a pretty bad wreck! Anyways, come to find out after the investigation they determined he was watching a porno on his laptop with his pants down at the time of the incident! Talk about being distracted!
bigrigtruckdriver Thanks this. -
My question or thought for people to ponder is, what is the difference in talking on a hands free device and talking to a co-driver? I feel that a co-driver would be more distracting as human nature is to turn and look at the person you are talking to during the conversation. What is worse, a few seconds to dial or constantly turning your head?
