All old trucks they have are 10 speed, newer ones are automatic, 10 speed is easy, for loads they pull way enough gears. Some places you even do not have a chance to use all 10. No one tractor has jakes.
Yap..I did physical test too, trainig was 2 weeks, truck are GPS monitored, they use X-data system. I decided to leave on my own, preffer driving truck, not a dolly. Lot of back pain, knee pain, permanently tired. Since than, i do not eat in restaurants![]()

What does "X-data system" mean?
-
I dont know if this is a common occurence or what, but about a month ago I got called out at 5 am(I drive a tow truck) to do a pull start on a 2011 freightliner for sysco. Apparently the starter has been going on it for months but nothing was done about it. Maybe its just a lazy driver not reporting it, but I would definately do a thorough inspection on the truck(s) you drive.
-
Correct me if I'm wrong, but is it not difficult to check a starter in a pre-trip? I mean, if the truck starts fine everytime, you have noe suspicions, ans noithing to report. If there were problems for a while, like truck won't start right away, etc, then yea, the driver is being lazy for no reporting possible malfunction with starter.
I mean, I'm not mechanically inclined in anyway, and have no way of knowing a bad starter when visually inspecting one.
-
He clearly states the starter has been going for months, to know that the drivers have been having problems while using it.
-
Apparently, I'm reading for the first time in my life...my bad!

Well, there is 120 drivers or so, and only few of them have dedicated truck, rest of drivers found number of the truck driving today on the schedule board. I had a truck with dragging brakes, the thing was not able to drive more than 50 reving up 2200 rpm.
And that was after brakes were fixed apparently. ABS lights common problem maybe on every truck. For pre-trip all you check is if you have your load in your trailer, signal lights, and if you hooked up properly, so you do not drop a trailer. All you looking for is a new damage, so you do not get into trouble, but early morning you do not notice anything because its too dark. If you wanna be picky, you check the oil.You fill up paper work, put it at drivers board and rush to customers. Make sure, you put your dolly into a trailer before you leave the yard
X-data is on board computer program doing your logs, gps...and so on.. -
Wow, I'm going to be more worried when I see those sysco trucks in my mirror now...
-
I'm shocked to hear this lax pre-trip policy and malfunction vehicles. I thought Sysco was all about safety???
-
They are about safety, do not take me wrong, you have to have a boots, hi-vis. vest, but if you spend 45 minutes doing pre-trip, as you should, you fall behind with deliveries and youre late than. They have an all kind of safety training, defensive driving course, proper lifting techniques , safety guy all the time.
They have a mechanic from Penske on the site, but, Sysco is like union company. Sometimes it takes a time something get done.
The good thing is big TV in lunche room and free coffee all day long, but as a driver, you do not have a chance to use it a lot. Some guys there are happy for many years.
Job did not fit to me, well, everybody cannot be a doctor.
