Are files between the Acert ecms interchange able? I'm assuming you can't put a 7cz file in a 70pin Acert ecm but can you put a MXS file into any Acert ecm or etc.?

What are the Acert 70 pin ecms called as opposed to the 70 pin MBN ecms?

The 40 pin ECM are ADEM 2 (like 5EK)
The 70 Pin ECM is ADEM 3 (Like 9NZ)
The Acert ECM which has 1 x 70 pin and 1 x 120 pin is an ADEM 4 (Like MXS)
Each series requires its own Files and then you have the different protocols along with Fuel cooled or Air Cooled.
    CDL Cat Data Link
    ATA J1708 American Trucking Association
J1939 which is a Universal Protocol.

So an Off Hwy ADEM 3 or 4 will have CDL and NO ATA so although they look the same they won’t talk due to mismatch Protocol.

The old Adem 2 had Both protocols.( ATA & CDL)

Then obviously the pin out is different between 40 Pin, 70 Pin and 120 Pin.

So all Acert Ecms will accept the same files?

NO! Some Adem 4 Acert engines (OFF Hwy) are CDL so they wont take ATA.
But if you are referring to just ON Hwy trucks then in most cases I've seen the Adem 4 for ON Hwy are all the same ECM apart from several updated ECM that all change up.

There is a difference between the bxs acert (70 pin but will not accept earlyier files) and the mxs/nxs acert (120 pin and will not take a bxs or any earlyier files. Then there is the 120 pin that is used on the Sdp acert/dpf engines and that will only take files for dpf.

The SDP is Dual solenoid so a different setup and I have never tried to blow away one of those ECM to set it back to RKS or TRB.

Does ANYONE use a SDP engine? I know is OZ no one will go anywhere near one!

Some of the restrictions in the ECM is now controlled by ET software and as such using a much earlier version of ET can allow files to be flashed when not allowed with later versions. You always run the risk of screwing the ECM however.

There are some SPDs out here I actually seen some for sale in "Deals on wheels" but the big problem with them is as they were never passed in Aus for emision compliance (since they were never actually offered by Cat) so cant be legally registered. I here the ones for sale were pulled from brand new Petes and repalced with MXS engines.

I thought they used 120pin on the first Acert then they went back to the 70 pin?

No the first acert was the bxs and that had a 70 pin ECM on it then came the mxs with the 120 pin ECM

This Guy I think imported 15 of them in Petes and cant sell them.(the SPD engines). I did hear he put in ISX engines but who knows what he did. Word has it he wants $25k each for the 15 Engines so Good luck to him!!! I'd give him $2k.
