So it sounds like you are trying, I'd suggest requesting a meeting with your FM and the FOM. Explain your concerns.

The main thing man is just to get down the road. work all day and then play. Plan on doing your 600 miles in 11.5 hrs. that allows you 2 1/2 hrs for flats and delays. If you see that the routing will not be all interstate the extra 2.5 hrs will allow you to make it where to where your going. Learn to time your breaks with fueling (eating snacks etc). Try to get by with on the run with sandwiches/energy bars . if you see that your doing good on time and real close to destination then you might have time for a sit time meal. Alot of times meals and showers get in the way of delivering on time and snacks and sponge baths(especially in winter) will take the guess work out of planning. Work all day then play. Left door shut and cruise set at max speed and you'll be fine

Grinder 58 hit it pretty good. In this biz, you, the driver, has a lot of responsibility DUMPED into your lap. Dispatchers dispatch, right ? Load planners plan. Drivers drive, plus deal with so much more. You, the driver, need to know how to manage your time the best you can. Just an extra hour or two after a long frustrating day seems like heaven on earth. Time to have a nice meal and shower and relax. When you have problems, usually dispatch won't give you extra time. It all spells one thing: STRESS. Have you heard about a truckers life expectancy, about 62 years ? So, plan on woofing down those those 2 for $2.00 Pilot hot dogs behind the wheel and missing a shower quite often. Just part of the lifestyle, which is the reason for the high turnover. Did your instructors tell you about that ? I'd say no.

Thanks for the replies, I want to address them at some point. Right now, I just can't believe what has happened.

14/7 fleet, I'm scheduled to come back to work the day before Thanksgiving. I said to my fleet manager and then her boss, 'hey, it's Thanksgiving, let the truck sit there a couple more days and bring me back the day afterward. No doubt in the course of the year there will be times when I can give those two days back and possibly much more. I know there are 14/7 drivers who aren't rotating with anyone and their trucks sit somewhere the entire week they are off.'

"No", was their answer. "it's policy".

So, they run me up the road the day before Thanksgiving. I just got my preplan, I'm supposed to sit all day Thanksgiving not earning money so I can pick up a load in the same city where I delivered the day after Thanksgiving. A 286 mile gold mine.

There is no company this dysfunctional and soulless. It's not possible. I'm starting to think I'm Jonah, I'm just in the wrong place and there is nothing I can do to make it right.

The comedy never ceases. I've driven Queens, the Bronx, Long Island, the GW. Atlanta, Chicago, LA. Mountains. Snow. Snowy Mountains. Not a DOT accident in over a million miles. This trainer flunks me on my road test driving around the block. I had to re-test a couple days later.

It's not Roehl, right? It's me. God won't leave me alone...It's nice to find God cares about what appears to be the most humble and insignificant of human existence.

They know, they know everything. He wasn't ready to fire me, I wasn't quite ready to quit. I just don't have a back up plan right now.

My last job was successful and I had a great time talking to the operations manager the day I left. But, I left for a reason, milk hauling, I never knew when I'd get a day off until the day prior. If I go back, same deal, I wasn't happy about it then and I wouldn't be happy about it now.

Trust me, my fm and her boss, we've done some talking. No one should be confused about anything. I've laid out the numbers, 12 working hours to go 600 miles- that's Roehl or it isn't.

I came back to work an hour early today. I brought lunch with me. I ate my lunch while I was driving, I made it to my delivery 15 minutes early. And no, no other stops except to buy a drink and nature calls.

Are you dispatched out of Gary? If so I'd suggest trying to get dispatched out of Marshfield. When I was working there the additional 10 percent was a must for transit time. I can't imagine that would have changed.

You drive for Roehl, right? The reason I ask, you make it sound like I'm getting those 1200 mile and 1800 mile trips. My time is gobbled up unloading, deadheading and loading every single day. You use up 14 hours, there's no play.

You're eating while you are driving and taking sponge baths. I don't know, man, I did the Marine Corps once, already. I shouldn't be surprised, though, I watched all the unexperienced drivers during orientation sitting across the room from the three of us with experience. They were in bootcamp, they were up every night in study groups. They were stressed, none of them knew if they would make it. Oddest thing, I've been to too many orientations, I never saw anything like it.

There was a time I was concerned about running my mouth on a message board. Now, I don't even care. Oh, and yes, Gary.

Idk, no one from operations welcomed us to the company during orientation, that's unique to Roehl, too. If this company has a soul I have yet to find it. I just don't know. Me? The company? God? I just have no idea.

I don't remember what my instructors said 16 years ago.
