Starting trucking school first of the year!!! Ready for a new career!! Been with the NC Department of Corrections for 10 years, time for a change!!! Been looking at school at Sage in Rocky Mount, NC. Looking to go OTR, tired of being stuck inside for 12 hours a day with spoiled men!!!!!! Wife is 100% for it also, so that helps. Going to be a change!!!

Welcome to the forums. Good luck with the career change. I hope you don't regret leaving the Department of Corrections when you find that a lot of truck drivers that you have to share eating and bathroom facilities with are even nastier slobs than inmates.

Same here. Been working in real estate for the last 11 years and it seems as if the entire industry just fell over the cliff. I will spend no more time working for absolutely nothing. That's insane! Starting CDL classes after Xmas.

I would stay in corrections. I left calif corrections after 10 years and now the guys I worked with are retiring. They had 10 years of vac, sick time, over time and more time with family. All jobs have low points, but most jobs you get to get away, go home, but driving, if the wheels don't turn you don't make money. Think real hard about how bad it is before you change..

Truck Driving has been great for me, best job i ever loved to hate. It took quite awhile for me to realize that.
The downside is now i'm fat and on BP meds from not getting enough exercise.
The upside is everything i own is paid off and i'm going to school for new career. And can make enough driving on weekends to finish school.
Trucking has been very good to me. Like most things in life i just sorta stepped into it not knowing, but b14 years later i'm glad i did.

    Dclay Thanks this.

    AMEN!!!

on the changing careers - for better or for worse at least its something different. The option is not just OTR that I believe opinion in the forum is 90% based on...

Hec you may go back into the corrections as a glorified bus driving inmate chauffer...

Many alternatives for CDL carrying drivers.

Hows bout all those national park shuttle/tour bus drivers (knockin down the fed benis), spouting off details about yosemite " if you look to your left you will now be passing by the yogi bear section" etc... :biggrin_25525:

I m sitting in a frikin motel waiting to work because of the rain...

Tell me i dont need a more reliable occupation ?

The elements may be bad on a road for a truck but some of us older outdoor workers have been having our skin compromised by the elements for years. For some of us its time to get the hec in a more controlled environment before our skin rots off....

    HELLO !!!

Good luck dude on the career move !

and for all you Vet truckers eatin bon-bons and knockin down 100k a yr.
theres a new breed of "OCCUPY" and we re going to be hittin the highways and bye ways enforce.

    Here we come!!!!
