I've got the 13 speed down pretty good at my driving school. Later this week I'm taking out a Super 10 that a lot of the other students have been having problems with. I understand how the truck should be shifted but I hear that it is more unforgiven than a 13 or 18 speed. Any tips or pointers?

Just remember to preselect your next gear. Most new guys wait until they are ready for the next gear to flip the button. The earlier you do it the better. I always liked the super 10, haven't seen one for a long time though.

The only habit I had to break myself of when I had one, was slapping the shifter back and forth to be sure it was in neutral before starting the engine. With a super 10, that motion will make it go back and forth between ranges, like lifting the switch on a 13 speed.

The issue with the super 10 vs. the 13/18 is it takes longer to do the split shift as it's a larger gap between gears. Give it time to shift and you'll be fine.

You'd never know it shifting it, but internally they're cousins. The 10 is missing two gears, and does the range shift automatically when the shifter moves to the far gate, but they are all structurally identical inside.

if you can shift a 13 the super 10 should be NO problem
just remember the super 10 is just the top half of the 13

My truck has the lightning 10 which is the electronically handicapped brother of the Super 10. Same principle but the lightning uses electric solenoids instead of air to make the split shifts. Works fine until it doesn't, lol!

Easiest way to drive it is to put it in first, then when you get ready for second flip the switch, take it out of gear, and put it right back in the 1st hole. It will be a lot smoother that way than selecting it and leaving it in the hole.
