50000 : 12 = 4166 before taxes, thats mean 1866 a two week period, included overtimes, before taxes. Man get real. You really thing that's enough to survive for a family with kids? If you are single, sharing acommadation, thats really OK money. I have no Mommy or Daddy to ask for money if I'm short, credit companies are not keen either.
Glad have no car payments, just mortgage on 40 year old house in Mission. So figure. I can't afford to go to work for 23 $ an hour wasting my tallent LOL

before I defend my stance 50000 isn't much to you cool what do you suppose a driver do the industry doesn't pay more than that unless its specialized freight. Most drivers out here are making .35-.41 per mile and they are sending home 700-800 a week which is bull #### money. 21 with ot is great becAuse ppl aren't making that.
As I said I'm 24 I take care of myself both my parents passed before I was 10 so I don't have anyone to ask for a bailout when I need it. I have all those expenses and 50k is a good amount to work with if your smart with money. 50k is the basement amount put in time and I can make close to 100k its called delayed gratification I can wait for the reward. What do you do with your talent. Apologies if you already said and are you making more than 23 how long have you been there.

life in 24 looks different, different points of view, different priorities. 50 000 in some parts of world are incredible money, but not in Lower Mainland.

Back to Sysco....what I would suggest is to change training system and make it longer, let say 6 weeks to 3 month, so you have a chance to see most of locations, while you learning the products and very important thing...where to park and what time.
Dispatching have some "great ideas too", sending a semi with 2 LB. of burgers to downtown. For small deliveries like that they could use a cargo vans like Sprinters or similar. Address saying PNE without street and house # is no good, I think.

Being driver for Sysco is a definitely labour job. You drive a 2.5 hours a day, Whistler drivers maybe a 5. Rest of the shift is labour job of unloading trailers at most stinky places ever and taking #### from anybody whose carrier is made on chopping onion and washing dirty dishes. Yes, u're driver associate. Yes, you're a last person that touches Sysco goods, so you're the bottom where the #### stops. Some guys are happy with that, they gets good pay, benefits, paid vacation, sysco hat ( witch become a collectible in some areas) and BACK PAIN, KNEE PAIN etc.Guys wearing any kind of support, some of them are masters of their art. They are home every nite....but with that back pain I rather do not wanna be in one bedroom with my wife. As I said...not everyone can drive for sysco, as not everyone can be a doctor, cop, thief or bricklayer.
I met there some really nice guys, like long haired PETE, Jessie,Jason, Keith, Pat, Lucas, David...and I believe there is way more nice guys, just can't remember their names.

$50,000 is just OK money. It isn't bad, but it's not GREAT either. If it's $1,866 every 2 weeks before taxes, it's likely about $1,200 after taxes, not? Again, that's not bad, but it's not that good either. basically, you could end up working half the month, just for rent/mortgage alone.

The electrician I know is at $34 an hour, $2,000 take home every 2 weeks. That is the kind of wage I could live with. Works out to $48,000 a year take home, not gross.

It's a tough go out there. Unless your educated or a trades person, you don't really have a hope of jumping past $25 an hour. Your lucky to get $25 an hour if your uneducated or not certified in a trade.

laci73 you really have me on the fence about what to do with Sysco.

Apparently they are suppose to be phoning me tomorrow about the job I applied for (apparently the old ladies family knows 2 people on the inside) In all honesty, I have no desire to make a truck and trailer fit into every back alley in town, only to wheel 200 boxes of cheese into a non english speaking restaurant, only to do whatever the customer says and act like I am there slave.

Surely there has to be something out there better than that.

To me...I have to be happy at work, have a fun, than it come to money. If I'm happy at work and make enough for the bills I'm fine. I do not have to be rich. I have basicly everything I need for living.

Every day I was asking myself, what the hell I'm doing here. Was no happy, no fun, no money either. But I could feel any misserable, when I was driving, even few blocks, I become happy again, till I started looking for another impossible parking and another stinky kitchen. Than I decide to quit.
Some places downtown are stinky you would not believe. I was surprised, that shelters for homeless people were clean, full of wierdos willing to help, at least to hold a door for you. Some Fancy restaurants....waste of word.

As a Tank said, there must be a something better, At least now I m happy, have a fun and money are better too.

To EW2108: being smart with money means what? In age of 23 I had a house , 3 cars, no mortgage, no car payments, finacially independent of my own money maid, no heritance or anything. I started from zero in my 19.....but after a time you start valuated different things than 100 grand on the bank account.

BTW: have you guys seen a new $100 bills? made of plastic? Thats the all value of them...piece of plastic, probably recycled. :biggrin_25514:

Laci I just mean being able to manage money some ppl get paid and cant figure what happened to their pay. I think i should clarify that where i live in the us (near washington dc) 50K is about a average salary im willing to enter a company making that and progress to more.

Laci on the training im actually pretrained as i said i worked for coca cola and we delivered in sort of the same way as sysco and into many of the same places via a hand truck so the environment is something that i didnt initially like at CCR but im used to now i ignore the dirt and smells and remember where not to eat.

Tank YOu will do exactly that many customers dont speak english but from my understanding you drop in a predetermined location and roll out. I have my road test with them in the morning

EW2108: are you going to work for sysco vancouver? Or Sysco anywhere else? If you'll be happy there, I'm OK with that, were just discussing our experiences. You still can agree or disagree. ;-)

Unloading for sysco is fill cooler, usualy meat extra, veggies extra, fill freezer, beverages extra, dry goods extra, packaging extra, take empty milk crates back. Also refused goods back. Fill up paper work.

Basicly drivers made a joke themselfs.

Frozen into fridge, cooler into basement and dry up on the attic into that house across the street.:biggrin_25523:

    ew2108 Thanks this.

Everyone is different, but I know for me, if I am going to drive, then I want to drive. I don't want to be a dock worker/secretary/dispatcher/truck driver. When you deliver produce for Sysco, your working 4 jobs for one jobs worth of pay.

I can't stand being in and out of the truck all day long. I like to get in, shut the door, and stay there for at least a few hours, and just enjoy the ride.
