Received a letter from the NCDOT and NCDMV
https://apps.dot.state.nc.us/pio/releases/details.aspx?r=5691
(This posting on their website refers to the New Federal Mandate)
Concerning to my obligation as a CDL holder to now verify to them my medical status, going to the website and making a few phone calls I am in the process to make sure this done ASAP.Few things you might want to make notice, this is not a "state Deal it is a federal mandate(btw if anyone else has gone thru this plz PM me thnx)
According to the person i talked to in Raliegh the crux of it is,the FEDS are to make a National Data Base much like how FMCSA is made a data base on Company's(they said it was so different states could easily access a drivers medical certificate,in a much more thorough way....

Not sure if you're complaining or just trying to be informative. BTW, a lot of states already do this. And this is the 21st century, right ? Instant everything !
-
Oh no not complaining, this was ment to be a informative post,a new Federal mandate,,
Quoted:"Most CDL drivers are expected to submit the federally-required information during the usual license renewal process. However, drivers whose licenses were issued before January 30, 2012 and expire after January 29, 2014 will receive a notification letter requesting the necessary information.
After I called in was explained that this is a new FEDERAL mandate to create a National Data Base,,My company(Conway) was well aware of this new mandate(as well as my personal Doctor who I saw this morning for a regular checkup),,I had not herd of this until i read the letter -
That has been old news for quite a while. They mandated it and gave them to January 30, 2012 to get it in place.
-
Before it's over, the doctor will enter all your info online.
That'll put a stop to multiple cards and a driver having to deliver the info himself to the DMV.ECU51 Thanks this. -
I have seen this talked about for awhile now; thought I would be required to submit my info when I renew my CDL in August 2012. I was wrong. Just received a letter today that indicates I am required to "submit my medical certificate with sufficient enough time as to ensure processing is completed by January 30, 2012 or my commercial drivers license would be cancelled." I understood that I had till January 30, 2014... Hmmm...
Guess I will do that tomorrow on my day off before I forget about it.
Still have to hold onto the cards.
Question to you all: Anyone know what will happen with the license or medical card expiration and active time periods? My states CDL is valid for four (4) years and medical cards expire every two (2) years or less; depending on variances (waivers) granted. -
You will re-new your medical card when it expires, then go to DMV so they can enter it into the system. Same for CDL.....you re-new it when it expires. Just means more trips to DMV, unles your state re-news by mail. Like Ca. does with a clean driving record. Not to worry, a year or two everything will be computerized.
-
Huh, haven't heard about this in Maine yet. We have to sign a form that says we are qualified under the medical standards, but I've not been asked for a card, a long form, or anything else for that matter.
If this is federal and applies to everyone, what about those of us in states that aren't doing it? Is this going to present a problem? -
Just got back from DOT/DMV this is a FEDERAL thing,,,(ALL STATES are required)reporting dates will be Jan 30th 2012-jan 30th 2014
NC will be sending out another more informative letter this week to clear up the ?'s that are being raised -
