I see. I am asking cause I found a 2000 century with a 262 wheel base with a c12 435 hp and a 10 speed and 3;70 rears.... Used to be a 4 axel truck but some were in its life it became a 3 axle. The truck is rough, really rough. Needs the whole dash gone thru (someone replaced the whole board and broke almost EVERY tab and did all kinds of damage), needs a major detail (smells like 10 dogs lived in it and were a pack a day smokers) and also has bunch leaks in the motor area, radiator, bottom of turbo has oil build up power steering, fuel pump seals, and god knows what else.
I'm thinking of buying it cash and slowly putting it back to great shape. I would only be working on it during the weekends and time off from work. So It would take a few months to get it in to TOP shape and a lot of cash for engine work...but yet my dumb ### is still considering it. Someone slap me! I just keep thinking it will be super nice when done....
I went and saw it today and it was some car flipper who owned it. So you know it has other stuff wrong with it...But yet it seems like a great deal to me. I spent years in the car biz some I am sure he is in it for nothing but I don't care. I just have to much time and no common sense on my hands I guess...

I'm barred for life in the town of Hastings-On-the-Hudson in Orange County, New York for driving a 265" wheelbased Western Star with a 53' trl to a shipper to pick up a load. The city police told me that 53' trailers are never allowed in this town- I pointed to the docks and asked him how all those other 53' trailers arrived.
Now they know what the number "53" on the trailer means.
Now, that truck entered Ontario and Quebec many times- finally, it got tagged for the long wheelbase in Ontario. The inspector was nice about it, he said if there wasn't a 53' trailer behind it no one would care. Early in 2000 I think. -
I'm 300" with a 53 spread, I've never had any problems anywhere up until a couple months ago in Florida, I got scolded for being too long, But a $25 piece of paper takes care of that for a year..
SHC Thanks this. -
I dont know why and how much would you pay for this truck.looks like it has lot of problems If I was to buy a truck I will save some more and get something that I can take on the road asap.

You'd have a hard time in CT.
A friend of mine has a 53 spread, wheelbase is long (but less than 300), and he actually had an escort out of state to the line. He also had a fine, can't remember exact figure, but think it was around $700-800. -
His problem was probably the 53' spread and not meeting kingpin to rear axle length laws, if he had less than a 300" wheelbase, not how long the truck itself is.
-
Yes that is correct. With same truck, pulling a 48 spread he is now ok.

There are other trucks out there that you can buy for a little more and spend less fixing it up and have a better truck in the long run, I'd walk away from the one you're thinking about buying. Sounds like it needs to be drug to the scrap yard. -
No, in Western Canada they don't reconize the spread as dual axles. they only allow 20,000 combined weight for them, as where in the US you can go 36,000 if I am not mistaken???

40k on a spread in the US.SHC Thanks this.
