So reading this thread has continued to not disapoint and I feel entertained.
I don't know who if anyone's side I am taking on this, but I will make a couple comments. I've gotten paid detention before and I have also been denied. The denial came on a similar no trlr to load situation. Had over 10 hrs on it. Figure it is why I didn't get it. Then there was the snow pay I didn't even know about. Spent 48 hrs sitting in East St. Louis in that icestorm waiting for a relay. I have turned in my detention requests differently and never denied for any reason other than the customer doesn't pay. Idk why this happenned and I never got a real explanation other then a "no".
Look each of us get treated a certain way and each way is different. Some people work well with a certain type of FM. Once mine left me alone we worked great together. The last months I was there went well. Even with my AC out thru the south.
My opinion of Roehl is it is a very good place to start! They have a quality program and they are setting you up so they make money. Normally this means you will too. They aren't there to make the employees rich, but what company is? NONE... if you're new to the industry or been out and looking to return they are a good choice. Tho like many you will be pushed and should really set the 120000 mile mark to pay off the school and find you niche company. Well I'm gonna stop now, but would suggest you all calm down a little and quit feeling offended. We all deal differently with things.
Stay away from ROEHL!!

You are right. Most these big companies have a lot in common. You pick any company.... you will always find those people who love it and have been there for over a decade and those who hate it.... Roehl was my first choice when I came out of an excellent community college CDL school. After a lot of research I thought they had good reputation, good equipment, good safety record, good pay, good trainers, etc. However, had a pretty bad experience with an awful trainer and since I didn't report the trainer quickly enough, trainer got me dismissed (fired) from company. Heard about three other new drivers who also had similar experience during training. Did I change my opinion about Roehl? Not really. I drove for them for less than a month as a trainee. It's just that I had a bad experience due to the circunstances and my inexperience.
Then, I went to a company who is said to have "bad" reputation, bad trainers, bad safety rating, bad everything.... but I felt very welcome, got a not so bad trainer,... and now have been there for almost 4 yrs in a very good dedicated account, have a GREAT dispatcher (who is also a great person for me) and a GREAT load planner. -
Lisa (I think this is her name) is a SOB trainer. She is also a flat bed driver. She trains females. Not sure she trains males. She "trained" me for 3 awful days. She is a b*&$#!!
She was angry, icy cold, rude all the time, verbaly abusive, cursing at me, not answering my questions, totally unhelpful, criticizing everything that I did or didn't do, confusing me... complaining about the smell of my fruits in her truck, didn't let me even eat inside her truck (and I am a neat freak person). I tried to be nice (how silly I was.... trying to suck it up to finish training soon.... should have called company on my first day with her and asked for another trainer) Lisa told me that for a female, I wasn't as submissive as her other female trainees....
REALLY?! She stressed me out sooooooooooooo much that I was having a hard time to do anything... and on the 3rd day, she lied to dispatcher to get me fired. Those who know her, may know what I am talking about. Had two other male trainers before her who were pretty good.

Rocks that was exactly what I was dreading. I got lucky with a couple good guys. I had heard horror stories of pain in the butt types. I don't play well with people like that.

If you have a trainer that you cannot get along with make it known right away and they will do anything they have to, to fix it. I have had a couple of students that I have not gotten along with well, and we both agreed that we needed to make a change, and got it taken care of. It is hard to share such a small space with a complete stranger. Not to mention that we have a ton of information to get through in a really short amount of time.

Hey Pa... I just got a call least night from one of the hiring guys. He was letting me know that they would hire me back if I ever would be so inclined. Lol made me feel good a little. So I mut not have been too bad. How's things out there?
