uh, not to be a thorn here, but if you ask for a lease/purchase up front, they will write it.
My contract has a lease term (2yrs) and a set purchase price at the end if I choose to execute it. My only requirement is I notify them in writing at no more than 60 and no less than 30 days before lease completion, of my intent to purchase.
Or I can walk away.
Mine is an addendum sheet and listed that way at the top.
My truck is a 2010.

If you request a lease purchase in the beginning, they will write it.
However, the prices are no great shake.

 

Well, I had 31 items on my clearance sheet to cover (some were multiples for the same department), but I got them all done, the truck thru the shop and cleared today. In last night at 1715 and cleared today at 1555.
Dispatched to pick up in Ft Worth and deliver to Amarillo. Then a meat load.
Even got my annual DOT physical in today. Wasn't due until February, but figured I was on a roll, so 'git 'er done!'

 

pay info came across Q/C today. The $300 is on there. Stevens made good on it.

 

Doesn't matter someone ALWAYS parks close to ya, even if there is 6,000 open spots available, haven't figured that one out yet

With all this talk of leasing you guys are bringing me back to a time long ago (about 3.5 years) when I was deciding on who was going to be my first trucking company. One of my instructors gave me a question to ask if they brought up leasing in the initial conversation. Very simple.

I read everything I sign. If you can't send me a copy of the lease agreement now, I understand that prior agreements may prevent that, will I be provided enough time to read it thoroughly while I am making my decision?

The answers:

C.R England - (Yes I considered them once) "You won't have time. Besides it's just a standard lease." [NO GO]
Werner - "No one reads those, they're written with the driver at heart anyway." [NO GO]
Stevens Transport - "Yes, you can take the time to read the contract, but you understand that this is not a Lease / Purchase agreement?" [The Answer I was looking for]

There were several other companies, including locals in Maine, but almost all of them gave me the oily used car salesman feel. Now, mind you, these were all recruiters ... but it's interesting the answers you get when you hit them with something they don't really expect.

For those out there that are thinking of leasing ... or as some call it fleasing ... insist on the time it takes to read and understand the contract. It's long and there's a lot legaleese, but it might just make the difference. Ask for help if you need it, and ask a lot of questions. There are some shady contracts out there ... just beware.

Off topic? I think not. When Smokr started this thing almost exactly two years ago, he wrote,

This time I had a feeling, so instead of heading into the bathroom after leaving the break room in the main hall, I walked on past.
There was Bill Craig.

Every other time I've been 'popped', it was just coming out of the bathroom.
