That's really valuable insight, with regards to following your instinct and hoping out to check. I wonder how many of us just get lazy and don't bother??

New York city with a W900L and oversize loads...it doesn't get any worse. I accumulated as much stress in 3 years as a normal person would accumulate in a life time.
All the places I have been and things I have hauled, not once have I ever bumped or hit anything. I have had times where I was backing into a spot, and I simply felt a gut feeling in my stomach about the side I couldn't see. There has been a handful of times where I stepped out of the cab, walked around and looked, and had I kept going, I would have brushed up against something.
It's like a switch, you feel fine, and then all of the sudden your gut feeling instinct kicks in. 95% of guys ignore this feeling, and end up damaging equipment or there pride, or both.
There's no excuse to not get out and check, because at the end of the day, the truck, trailer, load, and yourself, are all the sole responsibility of you. Every decision you make falls entirely on your shoulders, and so does the outcome of those decisions you made. -
Ok ok a 900 in Ny with oversize i give you your props
im a #### good backer but that would drive me mad. Yea i listen to that feeling i dont want another accident i had one when i first started driving i want no more of them.

Nobody is perfect, me included. Practice and focus go a long ways. I remember the very first time my dad let me try and back up into a space. I was about 14 at the time, and I couldn't get it in there to save my life. Here I am today, backing up better than he is!
It seems a lot of guys get in a hurry or they just don't think. You can see the look on there face that they have a good idea there going to hit something, but they continue on until they hit it anyways. The "wait for the bump, then your there" only applies to backing up against a dock, apparently some drivers missed that lesson.ew2108 Thanks this. -
It is a quite about Sysco recently

there was a place in philly where you had to go down 3 one way streets the wrong way then when backing in, had to drive your right steer onto the stairs of the church across the street.

I work for Sysco in Ontario. The hourly wage is just shy of $25 but with a lot of overtime and performance bonuses I will make about 89k this year, did 82k last year. Having said that I did not see the summer as I worked over 60 hours every week (optional). I would say typically the average pay for drivers in our warehouse is 1st year 66k, 2nd year 71k, and 3 years plus 75k
