wanting to get into real flatbedding. i currently haul heavy eauipment. so i am wonder about the equipment used to haul freight.
how many chains and binders and what length?
how many and what size tarps for lumber and steel?
how many straps as well as ratchet straps?
    how many coil racks?
how many edge protectors. what size and plastic or metal?
and anything else you can think of to be set up to haul anything put on a trailer. i know i will be using 3/8" chain and binders and they will be ratchet type.
I know this is a lot of info to post but i really wld appreciate it. i want to be set up right the 1st time and not go to pick up a load and not have everything thst i might need. thnk.

All of our trucks are equipped with the following:
    12-chains-3/8'x25'
    12-binders
    4-ratchet binders
    12-4"x27' straps
    2-4"x50' straps
    12-portable winches
    2-4"hand ratchets
    5-2" straps
    5-2" ratchets
    6-coil racks
    4-beveled 4x4's
    2-6'drop steel tarps
    2-8'drop lumber tarps
    1-14'x14' tarp
    100-150 bungees
    a crap load of carpeting

We dont haul of lumber or stuff like that so we dont carry alot of dunnage with us. The carpet we use to pad corners.

Every company truck I know of you will have most of all you need. A couple of portable straps, the plastic edge protectors you may not be given, but you may want to invest in some of them. There are a few other items you may or may not want just to make the job a bit easier. One of the quick ratchet things...Cant think of the proper name...The "S" kinda shape handle that you can roll the strap ratchet up with pretty quickly....if your an O/O, all of what the post above me would seem to work.

I would have a minimum of 8 4x4s. Get those loads of bar stock and rod where you need 4 of them to put the product on and 4 to make a nice bulkhead out of.

The amount of 2 inch straps depends on how many strap winches your trailer has for the 4 inch straps. I carry 8 on my truck with the ratchets for them. You may get one of those loads that needs more then the 12 4 inch straps you have. I carry about 20 4 inch straps. I have 13 winches on the trailer and extra is always good because they get beat up. I would say have atleast 2 edge protectors for each strap and have atleast 12 metal edge protectors for your chains. Some places make you use then on thin steel coils or stainless and galvanized steel.

Lumber tarps, smoke tarps, and 8' tarps and I can keep you loaded all day. Winter time is the big tarp issue. That and places like Lowes, Home Depot, and Walmart all always want their stuff tarped.

dont forget the duct tape.at least two cans of spray lube.w-d's is best for cleaning the crap off you, while p.b. blaster works great on the binders.i think the rubber bands for the straps are worth their wt in gold.a push broom is nice to have handy,,when you get m.t..dot.loves finding loose stuff on the deck,2 seconds to sweep it off.

Two winch bars, 1 long & 1 Short.
A framing hammer and a 3 to 5 Lb sledge is also a useful thing to have
A 10 or 12 inch pipe wrench comes in handy.
A good set of metal snips (that never leave your hands when in use)
A couple of pry bars / nail pullers is good too.
A shovel (square scoop) a short handle is OK
A 4 to 8 foot light weight paint roller extension comes in handy
A 4 or 5 foot ladder is nice
4 50Ft rolls of GOOD rope
Plastic milk crates come in handy for organization of small stuff.
    4 4 foot pipe stakes.
Duct tape, super tape what ever you want to call it. 2 or 3 rolls
Chain lube. Works on binders and ratchets, usually water resistant.
