I have Cobra 29 Night Watch. When I got the radio and set it up correctly (Not my first radio) the radio would not talk a mile and everyone told me I was in a drum; not what I want to hear about my radio.

I asked around and a few people in Jersey said they had their radios worked on at a shop I knew I would be by a few days later; they sounded real good.

I stopped in the shop and had him check it out. About 2 1/2 watts is what the power meter was reading; ouch. About an hour later he had replaced a couple parts, made adjustments, and tested my cables and antennas. Cable was good but needed a new end at one antenna and a cracked antenna on; need I say it? The right side. After all was said and done I spent $90. Final result, 18 watt peak power and modulation is very strong. A few weeks later I stopped in and bought an Astatic mic and had a Connex board installed just to have another toy.

No additional power is needed as I have talked from Dayton Ohio to the Petro at the Indiana state line; truck to truck. He was running a ton of power, though we lost each other when I hit the hills in North Dayton.

To late now, I would have had them replace the coax end and antenna only and tried that before letting them get in the radio and "replace parts"

A broken antenna and bad coax end could be a reason only 2 1/2 watts was shown on the watt meter :biggrin_2556:

Pick one side of the fence or the other,it's clear the side
your favoring now.You knew full well what your posting
would draw before you posted it.

When you can afford it,you too can talk 20-25 miles
under most any conditions with crystal clear audio.
If you ever choose to venture to the dark side of
Hot Rod audio peaceful life as you perceive now will have ended
and you'll find life away from socialist conformity
to be much closer to our countries founded Constitution

Well, I recently talked to The Kingdom of Tonga, near Australia, from my house in Chicago using only 5 watts, so power is all relative.
