Just bought another used DAF CF 85 6X4 430hp( Paccar 12,6l).
    Just over 750 000km (470 000miles) original engine .
I plan to use it on a dedicated local run of only about 5000km (3125 miles) per month pulling a semi with a pup trailer.
    56 000Kgs , 123 500lls train weight.
    Paid $ 21 500.
I hope to get at least 1000 000km out of it.
I will let you know when one goes south as I'm having good service from mine.
    All Euro 3 I think.

So which engine should be avoided? The thing is I need to finance the truck. So it needs to be something newer than a 2003 or 2004. I can find plenty of older trucks but cannot get them financed. Thanks again.

Go for something that is proven in your market.
To me it looks like a Detroit would be a good all round choice.
Altough the Paccar product as well as Volvo has treated me well if I was in the US I would probably look at Detroit as mentioned.
Cummins would also be on the list.

I have 2 N14 trucks both 2001's about 1.3 million on both, no problems so far. Engine knock on one but I think its just the injector.

whatever you do, do NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT!, buy a Volvo engine truck.

We run cummins n14. brunett, redhead and a stepchild m11. [IMG]

Injectors are cheap. ~250 per. and parts are available pretty much everywhere. No $1500.00 EGR like Volvo.
