    What?

If you're asking about loads, I've got loads all day out of Chicago and Rockford but they require 53' SD's with a minmum of 40' on the bottom and 8' on the top.

    so what your saying is you need a 48'? :biggrin_2559: 40 + 8 = 48 NOT 53

Read where he posted a "mim" of 40 on the lower deck...

So you could have a 48', but it seems most people want the biggest trl. they can get, but the shipper does not need all the space, but they want the trl...

i saw that, i just find it amuseing that these companies "require" you to go buy a bigger, heavyer, non 48 state legal trailer to pull a load that would fit just fine on a 48, and not pay you anymore for your trouble.

If you actually owned a trailer, in this case say a 53, you'd have the final say on weather the rate pays enough to justify the additional expense of buying a 53 vs a 48.

Just because XYZ shipping wants a 53 but is only willing to pay a 48' rate doesnt mean you have to haul that load. Unless you're a company driver and are told to go load it...

Except it's very rare to find a 48 with 40 foot on the bottom deck most have 38 down and 11 up top that's why they need a 53.

    American-Trucker Thanks this.

Your right but 50's and 51's aren't that common and if your going to drag those might as well tack on the extra couple feet and be as versatile as you can be. And 48 state legal can be taken care of with sliding axles and lifts so it's really not a problem you just have to learn how to load it or not run those states.

Our customer prefers not to load 48' SD's. They'll load 48' flats all day, but because of how the product is crated the only SD they will load is a 53' with at least 40' on the bottom deck and 8' on the top deck.
