That is the issue. We have come to far in our understanding of discrimination to allow it to continue. The suit against Prime is about educating the public. Discrimination is still practiced under the guise of "protecting" the person or person's involved. I have to believe that in such a large industry employing adults that it is not at all necessary to have lists. No one has wondered how many women were actually hired in the last 7 years that were on the list. There are at least over 100 were never hired. Looks to me that someone in Prime found a way to discriminate and got caught.

Prime got sued by the EEOC and lost for sexual harrasment by creating a hostile enviroment by putting female trainees with male trainers.
Prime is NOW getting sued by the EEOC for sexual discrimination for NOT putting female trainees with male trainers and making females wait for female trainers.
###### if you do, ###### if you dont.
Unfortunatly the females who come thru training, stick around and qualify to become instructors/trainers for the most part have no desire to do so. They cant be forced train. Prime cant sweeten the deal for female trainers, or they would be sexualy discriminating the men.
again ###### if you do, ###### if you dont.
I quite enjoy being able to pick and choose my trainees. I have to live with them for 3+ months. The day I am removed from the decision is the day I stop training.
Prime would never admit it, but they probably know who you are and dont mind leaving you on that list.DragonTamerBrat, cholosgirl and BigCheese Thank this. -
I don't understand why anyone would wait for months to go with a trainer. There are other carriers around that will find a trainer. I think that it is just another frivolous lawsuit. Prime needs to tell female applicants that they cannot put them with a male trainer due to the other lawsuit so they can't hire them. Why do something that will get you into a lawsuit?

If I may, and I dislike voicing an opinion in text because it is hard to express emotion and for emotion to be understood correctly. In saying this I am writing with the utmost of respect as possible. I am on the waiting list, I was told by my recruiter who I have the utmost faith in that the waiting list is any where from a month to a year. How this works is that you have to be ready at the drop of a hat to accept the offer, there is no time for a 2 week notice in your current job, they call you tell you that they are ready and have a trainer available and you have 1 week to accept and be ready to go. Some people will be called and they cant leave in a week so they get moved to the back of the line they move to the next, if they found another job, or cant be ready in a week then same thing. If they call you and your like yeah im ready then you get your bus ticket and all is well. That is why she said anywhere from a month to a year. Just depends on how many ladies in front of you are ready and able to go. I'm totaly cool with this. I have looked into other companies have done lots and lots of research, Prime is the best that I have found. Its like choosing which college you want to go to same thing you want to get the best education for your money right?!! So I have been accepted into the program I am willing to wait. As far as a lawsuit, that totaly sucks. I am sorry for those that were affected by it but it has or had nothing to do with me or my views or opinions. That was before I ever thought about being a Truck Driver, and I was obtaining my BSN. RN degree. I am not sure if someone was referring to me being silly and why would I have an opinion I dont know if that comment was directed to me. But if it was or not, I hold no ill will and assure you that I am not silly. I can be but when it comes to discussing something I care about I try not to be silly. I wish to not be put into the category of "wronged female, I hate the world and the men that run it". I am so proud to be accepted into the program, and am happy to wait, I'm doing great things in the mean time. And Lord willing when I get my phone call to say we are ready I will be alive and healthy and can start on the path to an awesome career. There is not another company in this entire website that is talked about more positive by its employees of every aspect of the career, the pay, training, the team work, work ethic everything is an example of a company that I want to share my work ethic and experience with. All though I don't have driving experience I do have lots of work experience, and know what it is like to work hard, and give it your all. Thank you, be blessed and Merry Christmas!!

This is a very delicate subject. But in my opinion, a woman that goes into trucking is mostly doing it for the same reason a man gets into it. The dream of making lots of money, the big trucks, the road, the lifestyle. They want to live it too, and can say that it's probably a little bit harder for them to get going with training n stuff because they always get chased n stuff. I have never been in that kind of situation and can only imagine the scenario. The cramped space, and two people of the opposite sex, for a month or two together. I'd imagine the male would be better accompanied, and the female would have someone who has a lot of time to listen to stuff to vent or whatever. It's about respect, and this is just my opinion. I don't speak for anyone.
cholosgirl Thanks this. -
Cholosgirl, you choose to just accept the waiting list because you happen to have indoor plumbing. That's your choice. There are women who consider this unacceptable. They want to be given a choice of training with a man who is willing to train them and thus, make their wait time shorter. I believe that choice....of training with a man who is willing...or of training with a woman should be available.
Here's how it works with Swift. (Not saying it's the only answer, but it is an answer.) Swift gives a little questionnaire to trainees. One of the questions is "Would you prefer a same sex trainer or is an opposite sex trainer acceptable?" Or something along those lines. If either a man or a woman states he or she prefers a same sex trainer, those wishes will be granted, with the understanding that women will usually have to wait longer for a female trainer. However, if an opposite sex trainer is acceptable to the trainee, the Driver Services person will look at the pool of available trainers, who were also asked beforehand whether they will train members of the opposite sex, and pair up students and mentors from that list. Both the trainees and the trainers have the option to say "same sex only." Nobody is forced to roll with a member of the opposite sex. Oddly enough, there aren't many problems with sexual harassment. When something is reported, the student is immediately removed from the truck and the accusation is fairly investigated.
What Prime did was to basically cut any choice at all by trainees or trainers. This places women at a distinct disadvantage due to the long wait time for a trainer. In my case, it completely blocked me from joining the tanker fleet because there were NO female trainers in that division. Prime did not trust me to stand up for myself and did not trust men to behave themselves. I was very annoyed with this because it directly limited my income. Tanker pays higher than either Flat or Reefer divisions.
If you are willing to accept this limitation without having been given a choice as to whether you could train with a man and get to work faster than waiting around on a woman, that's your problem. You can wait all you want. You can allow yourself to be excluded from a higher paying division based solely on your gender. Me? Put my arse on a truck and show me how to run a tanker. I don't care, man or woman. I was a firefighter/EMT for too long to be squeemish about living with men I am not related to.
I was trained by a man at Swift. In the entire six weeks I was on his truck, he was the perfect gentleman and I respected his privacy. Neither of us ever saw the other without clothes on. It is possible, even in a small space like a truck. Maybe my stance on this stems from sharing a bedroom with my brother until he was twelve and I was ten.Last edited: Dec 19, 2011
